The fanciest Hotel in Luang Prabang
by calcaf38 about Villa Santi
The Villa Santi used to be the residence of a Lao Princess. After the years of turbulence, the house was returned to the Princess' family who turned it into a successful hotel.
There are several wings and some rooms are fancier than others. The hotel is carefully decorated with antiques.
It is all very elegant, and just a touch synthetic. But not overly so: you can still distinguish rats scampering on the heavenly patio.

This old charming hotel in Luang Phabang is one of the best choices if you want high class accomodation there.
It is a small colonial hotel, former Royal Building, with a "modern" annex building.
Centrally located, within walking distance to everything in the centre, it offers doubles with A/C including buffet breakfast for 65 USD.

Hands down, the Villa Santi in Luang Prabang, is THE place to stay. At $36 a night (when we were there anyway), it's certainly expensive from the standpoint of the local economy, but it's an affordable treat for anyone from the West. Even if you don't stay there, have dinner in the restaurant and sit on the balcony beneath the front portico of what was once the residential palace of a Lao princess. The food is excellent. Incidentally, throughout Laos you can get baguettes and brioches thanks to Laos' French colonial past. Few things can beat sitting on the balcony above the front portico of the hotel over dinner with a gentle rain coming down. And the food, whether French or Lao, is as delightful as the atmosphere. The only slight annoyance is that service can be a bit slow.
For more detail, see the travelogue entry for the Vila Santi.
General accommodation note here:

Highly recommended We've used them for four years now and have always been extremely well-satisfied.
Nice hotel

An old colonial building that has been restored. The accommodation was spotlessly clean although our room was a little small. At night we had mosquito nets and this felt very romantic!
At the rear is a pleasant courtyard where you could just sit and relax with a drink. Service was excellent although not all of the staff spoke English to any degree.
The restaurant is upstairs and served lovely Lao food and an excellent breakfast. Very near to the temple district and very atmospheric. I fely comfortable as soon as I entered the reception.

If you are looking for relax and some luxury in LP this is the place. I don't use to travel on a high budget, but this was my last night in Laos and I decided to go for it, what the Hell!
I checked in at noon and stayed at the room till 5pm, then went for a short walk and dinner and back to the hotel, where I stayed reading, hearing music, and relaxing in its beautiful verandas... It is located in the very center of LP, at walking distance to everything, 1 minute from the boats, the main shops, monasteries...
It is a 120 years old French-Laotian building that used to be a Royal House. They have 2 buildings, close to one another. The "oldest" is the hotel and the other is the Resort. The Hotel is nicer but the Resort is more peaceful and bigger rooms.
65 USD for the double, breakfast included. Fruit welcome basket too. A/C, of course.

Hi,
Villa Santi will be your best option if you're after a classy French restaurant.
We had a table on the balcony earlier in the year which was very nice.
We couldn't find many other French restaurants in LP(and one that took credit card).
good luck
