We decided to stay here as it was given quite a good write-up in the guide book, so we checked in as soon as we arrived. We paid for a private bathroom with hot shower, so after relaxing for an hour or so after our trip from Vientiane i decided to take a shower. Standing naked in the shower no water was forthcoming, let alone hot water. So i complained at reception and they sais i could take a shower downstairs. The next morning there was still no water, and again i was informed i could take a shower elsewhere, at which i informed them i would check out, why should i pay for a private bathroom with no water. The girl at reception said this was always a problem with the upstairs rooms. During the night we were woken up by noisy guests returning from a drinking spree. They also had an internet cafe which informed us that the price was 300 kip a minute, same all over town, but if you bought a card for two hours they would only charge 200 kip a minute. However although several places in town charged 300 kip it was not too diffivult to locate a place for 200 kip. I guess this place made its name a few years ago, but is a bit run down and takes advantage of the travelers. BEST TO AVOID THIS PLACE!!!
We stayed 3 days at this place, which is located just across the river passing by the small bridge. The staff were friendly and the compound consisted of a grassy area with perhaps twenty bungalows situated around the boundary. We had a bungalow with hot shower and balcony for70,000 kip but basic bamboo bungalows were available for 30,000 kip. New bungalows were being constructed. The owner also had a restaurant across the bridge where guests would get a free coffee with their breakfast, or a free bucket with their supper. Very peaceful setting and quiet at night
This is a great, clean and friendly guesthouse that's located right next to the two wooden footbridges that take you over the small river to the so-called "Party Island", so it can get noisy at night. I had a nice, clean room with a double bed, table, chair, a/c, and a hot water shower for 80,000 kip. They'll also arrange onward travel for you.
Stayed here for a week with 2 other buddies. The location is just off the main drag of party places, so you were still able to sleep at night :). Rooms are basic, but for $5 a night you get a bed with linens, and a shower with hot and cold water. Yea it's basic, but here no one hangs out in there rooms. It's simply a place to crash out every night.
They do a good breakfast, English style, and like for about $2. They have a bar in the lobby where you can get yor glass refilled with tasty Lao beer for next to nothing, and then chill out in one of the Lobby Gazebo's on cushions watching movies, or napping between tubing.
Light, breezy and whimsical feel to the place. Nobody's in a rush, and the Host is real easy to get along with as well as the rest of the staff. If you nee reservations for anything else in town, or transportation, they can hook you up there too.
Stayed at Vang Vieng Orange Guesthouse for 50,000 kip for a double room. The family running the place were rather quiet, but very friendly. I would recommend one of the rooms on the top floor since their balcony views over the river are very nice. Air conditioning is not even required since the mountain air is relatively cool and the fans are sufficient.
Fans are all that are needed. Rooms all have private hot water bathrooms. Laundry is available for 5,000 kip/kg. Walking distance from all sites in Vang Vieng.
This is newer place than DK 1 and higher with more rooms. It's very clean and affordable and it's possible to negotiate a price if you stay longer than 3 days. Normally they charge 60 000 KIP for a room with fan and double bed and hot shower. There's also satelite TV in rooms or AC. Beds are quite comfortably and rooms have large windows with screens. Older part of the same compound has little bit smaller rooms without TV but it's ok for a night or two. These are cheaper and have view to the neighbour's yard. Staff is helpful and friendly; they are willing to do room service if you ask by the reception.
Place seems to be popular with Lao students groups on their trips.
You can enjoy views over the air strip from common balcony. It's quite nice there, quiet when there aren't too many guests in the place. more quiet than guesthouses in town.
This is 3 storey building with lots of rooms. If you come into town from bus station by the air field it's one of the first building on Kangmeung rd - the road straight from the food stalls and telecom tower. It's cheap place to stay - we paid 50 000 KIP for a room with double bed with fan and bathroom with hot shower. It's clean too.
Staff can speak English and they're willing to do you a room service if you tell them. But somehow you need to get them to the reception if you want something. They like to sit in the shadow and entertain themself while costumers are waiting to get thier keys back or wanted to get some information. Like any other GH in town you can book activites with them or purchase tickets.
On the terraces that face Teacher training centre you can have your lunch or dinner, but bring your own food.
close to the bus station, funny staff
When we re-visited VV with my parents, we took rooms in Malany guesthouse - quite a large place, two buildings in fact in the centre by the main road. It's not the cheapest place but it is still very affordable: AC room with private bathroom cost 120 000 KIP, those without AC are for 80 000 KIP, all with hot shower and clean (in 2009) - if you're not there in hottest months of a year, you most probably won't need AC anyway - a good way to save few thousands KIP. Staff is very friendly and helpful, almost everybody can speak English. In case you come by car there's also a parking lot by the GH.
Unfortunatelly, that price won't include breakfast. For delicious local food you'll have to try one of many restaurants of food stalls which are especially good in preparing fresh fish and vegetables.
Its only USD 7 per night when i last stayed - April 2008 for a Twin bed Room. The View is Perfect!! there is restaurant in the guesthouse and plenty of restaurants around it.
Tour operators, convenient stalls are all within 1 minute walk!
Hot water in bath room too
Great View of River Namsong and the Hills... the walk across the bridge is romantic. Just walk out of the guest house and you will be in the Town.
Organic Farm cafe is located at the main road, but as there are barely any cars thats no obstacle to stay there! The rooms are big and clean, I had a room with private bathroom, furnished with two chairs and a balcony for 50000 kip/night.
downstairs they have good breakfast and lunch/dinner. Try their mulberry shake!!
After we'd arrived in Vang Vieng, it gave us trouble to find 2 rooms (we're a family with 3 children) Finally we arrived at Les Jardins Organique. The huts looked nice, but they only had one hut with one room available for us. We decided to take it, as it looked rather nice. They placed a big double matrass on the ground for the kids. Later on we found out, that these beds were the worst ones we ever had on our 6-week trip through Thailand and Laos. They were extremely hard, our backs hurt after just one night.
So we decided to move to next door (Villa Nam Song) and pay the extra money for a good night rest.
The bungalow huts of Les Jardins Organique are situated in a lovely garden near the Nam Song River. You have a nice vieuw on the mountains, the river and the tollbridge.
We payed 10$ (8$ for the bungalow hut and 2$ for the big matrass
Very nice bungalows, but quite umcomfortable!
Lovely garden and nice vieuw
There are about 22 bungalows spaced out over a beautiful garden. From our balcony we can see the cliffs and the river. Beautiful butterlies with amazing colour are plentiful. We are in the top end bungalow at $10 a night with double bed, air con and fan and attached bathroom. The bungalows are fairly spacious and clean. The reception will lock your valubles away for you. You can also arrange tubing and your VIP bus from here.
Double fan bungalow is 6.60$.
I only wish I had taken a photo. I was going to, but kept putting off and then it rained!
Clean bungalow with amazing views, just away from the main roads so it is very peaceful.
Nice and clean, fan double room cost 40000 Kip. Well maintained and comfortable bed. Nice bungalow too.
This GH charges $US6 for a twin with private bath and fan. The rooms were clean but basic. We didnt last 1 night as we found the noise from surrounding bars and restaurants just too much.
We paid our money and left the staff were fine, we had already put our washing in so we agreed to pick it up the next day. They are very trusting we never paid and considering we had been travelling a bit our clothes were not exactly anything we couldent live without!! The same with the room we never filled any paperwork out they just gave us a key we paid when we left. I suppose if we were less honest we could of just left without even telling the staff.
They also have a travel agency which assisted us with travel arrangements when we wanted to move on.
The staff obvioulsy have a sense of humour whenever we walked past them they always asked us if we needed a room!!!
If you are young or young at heart and intend to spend most of your time out this GH will be okay for you but if you want a nights sleep without the noise forget it.
I have ticked somewhat unsatisfied only because of the noise factor.
Can't remember the the exact location but I know it was off the main drag.
our friends Neil and Phan have a guest on the main road but away from all the noise of the bars, Nice rooms but not expensive around $3 a night Nice people and home like atmosphere
it's very close to where the bus drops you off you can actually walk Or Neil can pick you up
