Great price, quiet corner of town
For a hotel that's central this place is hard to beat. The city's premier hotel, the Lao Plaza, is just across the street but City Inn's rate is perhaps a third of what you'd pay at the Plaza. It's a block away from the main avenue so the area is relatively quiet. Breakfast is OK, not much selection but at least they change the viands daily. The museum, cultural hall, central post office and Talat Sao market/mall are within a 5-minute walk.
Room has cable TV, shower and tub, mini-bar, safety box, complimentary mineral water, coffee and tea, WIFI and buffet breakfast.
I'd certainly recommend this place.
Unique Quality: They don't have a pool, bar, gym but if you don't need those amenities anyway then this place is more than suitable enough to stay. The only thing that disappointed me (but which did not lower my comfort level) is the floor in my room is bare, smooth concrete. Perhaps it's easier to clean?
Another minor concern is the room key is your old-fashioned, regular, non-card type. Leave it at the reception or guard it well.

Good Location
Stayed for 2 nights in June '10. Room was @ front of hotel but very little road noise. Clean rooms but no hot water from sink; boiled kettle to shave. Basic buffet breakfast but good. Pleasant, helpful staff.
Exit hotel to left & then left again to Fountain area, restaurants & Mekong River. Local bar opposite hotel has large ice cold BeerLao for 9,000K (£0.68p).
Exit hotel right to That Dam, Patuxai & morning market.
