There are now a few high range accommodations available throughout the city. And even in places such as these, the managers are open to discounts, especially during the low season. Before jumping head first, though, it may be wise to discuss the inclusion of service charges and taxes in one price. Lani I-Pleasant accommodations in a house decorated with antiques and handicrafts and a terrace dining room (Sethathilat Rd opposite Wat Ong Teu)
Lao Hotel Plaza-In the heart of the city, a good chioce for something modern (63 Samsenthai Rd)
Settha Palace Hotel-French period furniture, beautiful architecture and manicured gardens (6 Pang Kham St)

Try to get a room at the garden site.
View over the pool and live music during dinner. It is a very nice hotel in the centre of China Town.
Great foodcourt around the corner.

Hotel VIENTIANE & LUANG PRABANG
by petwouters
Hi,
I checked out several hotels online for a stay in October in both Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
I was just wondering if anyone has stayed at any of these hotels and if so, what do you think of the quality and is it worth it, or have you got other tips for accommodation?
In Vientiane, I will be staying at the BEAU RIVAGE hotel.
In Luang Prabang, I will be staying at the hotel MUANG LUANG or at BAN LAO hotel.
Any tips, comments, reviews, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

acc in LP was plentiful, and much the same around town. one tip though... i took the slow boat from thailand down the mekong to LP. A great experience but very very slow. as everyong got off the boat there was a mad rush to find a room, and i nearly missed out. if you catch the boat from thailand, be the first off the baot and run run run.
all depends on the season of course.
the best place in Laos that I visited was Vang Vieng. between LP and the capital. also a great half way stop over place. spend 2-3 days there, dont just drive by it you'll miss a great little lao town.

Just thought I'd mention that both of your choices in LP are a little out of the way. Not that Luang Prabang is a big place, it's just that if you're out for dinner, markets at night it could be a bit of a dark, longer than necessary walk back to your accommodation. We stayed at the Jaliya Guest House which was fine but nothing terribly special, its closer than your two options but we still got sick of walking in and out from the town.
We tried to get into Sayo guest house and Sala Luang which are in the quiet little lanes in the pretty, older part of town. We don't usually like being among the touristy areas but found that LP was so tranquil that it was all good
While you are there be sure to try the Blue Elephant restaurant for some great French food, but even better, the open air bbq restaurant on the river bank.
