View of Mekong River

Inter City Hotel is located along the Mekong River and within walking distance to the sights in Vientiane.

The room was a little dark, but large and clean and the bed was also OK. The room had a TV with a few foreign channels and WiFi was available for free. One bad thing about the room was that there was not enough hot water - practically no hot water at all… Breakfast was included, but nothing special. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I screwed up with the safety box, but this was fixed without any problems. There were two free computers in the lobby.

Unique Quality: The location along the Mekong River (ask for a room with a view of the river).

Great views of the Mekong

We were actually taken to this hotel by staff from the Lane Xang Hotel, as they were fully occupied. They sat us down and gave us a cold drink, like any excellent host, before taking us in their own van to the other hotel. I gathered that this was not pure ultruism, but some form of relationship between the hotels, but, the treatment was nevertheless much appreciated, as we had just spent 9 hours in a bus!

The Inter was a charming little hotel, which has reportedly recently had quite a refurbishment. We wanted to check out late the next day, so did not have the option of a room overlooking the river - next time. We ended up in an internal room with no windows! It was spacious, very nicely decorated, and had an excellent bathroom. Breakfast was included in the rate, and included both Western and local food.

The Lonely Planet does list it, but says it does not have an elevator. This has obviously been an addition since the latest edition.

Unique Quality: Outstanding decor - attractive furnishing and decorating in the foyer - a lovely "boutique hotel".
