Hotel with a view of the Mekong River

Hotel is average, staff is friendly and there is a Lao cultural show at night for interested tourists. Definetly worth a few hours of your time! Rooms are slightly outdated but clean and air conditioned!

Old Russian style hotel

When we arrived from the airport by a Taxi (an old Toyota from the 50:ies - it made 0-40 km/h in 2 minutes!) we met very friendly staff saluting us everytime we entered the gate to the hotel.
The breakfast was very nice with everything You can ask for.

Unique Quality: We rented the presidentsuit at Lane Xiang just for fun, it´s a bit solky and could for sure be a part in a old movie, the suit had 3 rooms - 1 master bedroom and 1 bedroom with 2 beds, and a livingroom with a huge refridgerator (2 m high!) the only thing in the refridg. was 2 bottles of water and 2 cans of Lao Beer!
Satelite TV, telephone, roomservice 24 h, swimmingpool.
The doublebed had seen better days, it was impossible for 2 persons to sleep in - it was something like a hammock. I had to sleep in the other room but we slept well and it was quiet.

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Not really for back packers...

Not really for back packers but I like the LANE XANG Hotel in Vientiane.
Room (not pP.) price from 25 USD up to 40 USD.

Unique Quality: Most room have Mekong view and there is also a swimming pool (for those who need it) for hotel guest, outside guest have to pay a little fee.

More about Lane Xang Hotel

Lane Xang Hotel

by CliffClaven

It is now fairly easy to find clean and comfortable accommodation in Vientiane, but in the old days the Lane Xang Hotel was the only place to stay. Like many grandes dames, it is now beginning to show its age. When old Cliffie stayed there, he was the only guest along a dark soviet-style corridor. At least he thought he was, until he found the lizards in the wardrobe. The hotel music system played 'You are my sunshine' from 5 a.m. to the following 1 a.m., but the off button didn't work in the room. Old Cliffie lay on the bed, drinking warm Lao beer, going steadily crazy.

Sunset Salakhounta Cafe

by muddybok

The name suggests that this could be the best sunset spot at Mekong. I arrive at this joint few hours before I am leaving Vientiane and really like the atmosphere here.

How to get there?
Drive along Fangum Rd at Mekong Promenade and pass Lane Xang Hotel on your right. When the tarred road is forcing you to curve, go straight to the gavel road & hit till the end. (nice 3-4 mins drive/ride)
