The Novotel is located near downtown but it is a good walk away. It is tremendously overpriced and gives no local flair. If your lame and enjoy no sence of adventure then stay here.

Novotel was entierely restaured in the '90.With its about 200 rooms it is an important hotel in Vientiane.
Unique Quality: Very well kept, its lobby is one of the cosiest of Vientiane.Nice place to meet people and have a drink.There is a small swimming pool.Some nights there is music.Dining room is clear and nice with good service and food.Rooms are not big.The only inconveniance is that it is rather excentric from the center of town but on the other hand it is near the Mekong and the 'guingettes'.There are now some shops around that makes it less isolated.Good adres for quality/price around 80$ per room

The rooms are spacious and clean.
Internet broadband in the room costs $15 per day. In the business centre it's about 2$ for 1/2 hour. In town it's much cheaper.
Breakfast is good - starts at 6.30am.
It is about 5-10 minute walk to the centre. Or you can flag down a tuk-tuk (better than getting one that waits outside).
D Tech club is in the grounds of the hotel - not in the same building so it shouldn't keep you awake. Closes at around 1am.
Very friendly staff.
I'm not sure if I would stay here next time, as the distance from the centre is quite annoying and now there are apparently comparable hotels located in the centre (which before was apparently not the case)

Novotel Vientiane is a very relaxed hotel in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Hotel room was very clean and gives you a comfortable feeling. Hotel staff will assist and give you a free transportation from Wattay Airport going to their Hotel, as added service they can give you a free drop and pick up service within Vientiance city center once you will be their guest.
Everything in Novotel is personalized, from booking your hotel room to checking out. Personnel is friendly and helpful.

Money - no ATM - changed $ in hotel
Travel - tuk-tuk and back of motorbike
Health - had a cold for 3 days (probably caught it in the airport queueing for the visa). Otherwise OK.
