a small luxuous hotel

Settha Palace is a small luxury family owned hotel. It has its importance as a historical example of the colonial period.Built in 1932 by fam Teodas, in became very quick 'the place to be ' in Vientiane. With communisme the family fled to France and managed to get it back after the country opened its doors in the '90.They restaured it with the help of the architect of Raffles Singapore. In 2000 the hotel joint its peers as the 'Legend'hotels of Asia (Raffles in Singapore, Oriental in Bankok,Majestic in Saigon....etc).It was the intention of Billy Teodas to make the hotel bigger.

Unique Quality: The hotel has only about 40 rooms, a nice small swimming pool.It is situated in a garden very near the center of town and not too far from the airport.Service with style (Billy Teodas studied in Switserland).Food is good.Prices per room about 120 US$ , what is very low compared to the other 'Legend'hotels of Asia

Best Hotel in Vientiane

The Settha Palace is the nicest and most beautiful hotel in town. It's a heritage hotel, made up of a few colonial buildings. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very grand and luxurious. Marble floors, elegant bar and wonderful rooms are features of this hotel. It is mostly full of business and UN officials. The UN uses the hotel for conferences. They have a lagoon style pool that is surrouned by frangipani trees, unfortunately the tv tower is right next door. The hotel is pricey, but during the low season you can find some cheaper deals on their website.

French Colonial Luxury

The Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane is both a historical landmark and the city's best luxury hotel. Built in the 1930s during the height of French colonial Indochina, closed for many years after the communist revolution, and recently reopened in 1999.

We stayed here during our two night visit to Vientiane, and we were immensely impressed by the quality of the room, the facilities, and the service. Very similar to the Grand d'Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Quite refined but still relaxed and friendly. And although it is prohibitively expensive to the average Lao, it is a great bargain compared to similar class hotels anywhere else in the world.

Unique Quality: Our room still maintained a French colonial feel and was tastefully furnished. The bathroom was both modern and elegant. The pool was heavenly after a hot day of sightseeing. The breakfast buffet only served western food, but was still quite decent. The location is within a short walk of all the major sights.

Vientianes Best?

A restored colonial style property. Lavishly, yet sympathetically restored. Teak hardwood floors throughout and Lao antiques and furniture for decoration. A unique ambience.
Friendly helpful staff and an excellent French chef.
Our room was large, light and airy, and extremely comfortable.
There is a nice garden and terrace at the rear and a swimming pool and loungers. Although expensive by Lao standards I would recommend to anyone.

Unique Quality: Huge Geckos on the walls at night!
