by thelittlevoice I was kinda upset at first because they were supposed to pick me and my friend up at the airport but they didn't...well actually they did. They sent one bellboy over and I guess it must be him from the way he dressed but he didn't show any sign so I didn't know. I met one nice guide there who picked up a Thai group tour and he offered to drop us at the hotel. Once we got there, we told the receptionist about it so he upgraded our room :) They have a great variety of breakfast, american, dim sum and some congee too.

Among the well equiped facilities are conference and meeting rooms, fitness centres with spa, sauna and aerobics, swimming pools, game rooms and tennis courts. The hotel has a casino in the building to cater mostly to its room guests.

Sweet House Macau is the only budget accomodation one can find downtown. While the rooms are small and very basic, they are tidy and well-kept, the air-conditioning is cold, and the bathroom and kitchen are spotless. The very affable Cyril, Richard, and Ernesto run the place and are an endless reservoir of information on the city, and can give you a discount on the rooms if you arrange to stay for a few days. Really quite a good bargain for under $20 for a double room.

HotelRoyal by xuessium Offering the standard hotel services, my stay here was quite comfortable. Service was warm and adequate. Do note that the hotel is under going renovation at the moment and it should be completed by late 2005.
It is a little off the main tourist path, but you get a little bit of quiet and peace. I like the streets around it, aplenty of local cafes, selling cheap but good local delights!

HotelSintra by xuessium The most striking thing about this hotel: The curtains and the blankets have the SAME grandmotherly design. Ornate? Dated? Your call. The rooms are nonetheless comfortable if you are just looking for a good night of sleep. Comes with a TV (with very limited overseas satelite channels), bath tub & mini-fridge but no deposit safe. The corridor has a musty smell from both carpet and cigarette smoke and if you are really unlucky, you may have a room literally right next to the lift. There is a sauna on the 2F, which unfortunately, looked suspiciously seedy.
Location. You are just 10-15 minutes walk from Senado Square, yet the hotel is located at a quiet spot away from the crowd. At first hand, it looked like the spot has no eateries - but walk across the road into the alleys and you will find delis, cafes and convenient stores. I would definitely not recommend the Ritz Hotel to anyone else. Every single day that I spent with my family was a hassle: the keys would not work to the rooms, we were charged more for the rooms than the published rates, and the management never helped us when we had a problem. The suites in the newer wing are nicer than their regular rooms (they are also much more expensive), but their old wing definitely can not boast five-star facilities, more like three-star! Very much a disappointment....

We four persons stayed 2 nights here, i.e. arrival day and departure day. Macao is actually our transit point to Hong Kong. I saw its webpage during doing my preparation works for this trip. It's introduction quite compact. Liaise with Mr. Richard for more than 10 months for our stay. He did "entertained" me very well, answered all my pre-tour doubts. Benefits: low cost, free internet excess, simple cooking facilities (instant noodles & drinking water are not a problem), shower water heater, very friendly, providing good assistance and no curfew. I did consider youth hostel at Haac-Sa Beach earlier but it is too far away from city center (our activity spot) and CURFEW! It's a unit in a 4 or 5 storeys apartment building that "no longer new", no lift as well. The Sweet House is at 3rd Flr. For us, that's never a problem to walk up :) This hostel is of a 3-beded apartment. If you are looking for entertainment in the hostel, your only choise would be watching TV (at common area) or surfing internet. If you are looking for a bed to rest & sleep with moderate condition, The Sweet House is very reasonable for your. Do expect hostel, but not "hotel" quality.
1. Fast responding to pre-stay email enquiries. I like this cos i faced long lead time for answers with other hostels in Hong Kong, which makes me very fed-up. 2. Hostel is located right in the city center, 5 min walk to Casino Lisboa (on our right) and 5 min walk to the Senado Square (on our left). 3. Low in cost. Only HKD 80 per person for a bunk bed. A room of four costs us HKD 250 only. 4. Safety - it's safe here. They have "guard" staying in the common room during night (actually to cater those walk in guest, i guess). There is a double locked main door to enter this apartment, and then another lock to enter your room. Alight at San Ma Lo (near Senado Square). It takes bout 5 minutes walk to The Sweet House.Website: www.harleys.de/macau/macau.html
