Metropole Hotel: Nice--and pricey

by jlcurtis287

We ended up changing our accomodations at the last minute from a hostel a few streets down. We were there on a weekend night in May, and wandered into the hotel about 11.30pm that night. Luckily they still had rooms available and we got a double room/suite for MOP/HKD $800 (about USD$100). While it was definitely pricey (could have found something much cheaper had we booked ahead), it was a really nice room complete with tea service, air conditioning, TV, internet, and a free dim-sum breakfast.

Overall, a reasonable price for the accomodations, time of stay (weekends being the most expensive in Macao), and great central location to CBD attractions.

Hyatt Regency, Macao: 5 Star Hotel in Macao

by SLLiew

Stayed at Hyatt Regency Macau for a seminar training.

The hotel has excellent facilities but a bit isolated on a island connected by bridge to the main downtown of Macao.

So not much distraction for attending training. Enjoyable stay and highly recommended though a bit quiet.

New Century Hotel: Not Exactly Caesar's

by krc

The New Century Hotel & Casino has a self-described "Greek Mythology" theme. But don't go expecting the visual spectacle of, say, Caesar's Palace. Rather, picture a 7th-grade drama club with an unlimited budget. The lobby is more likely to inspire laughter than awe.

Our rooms, however, were pleasant; clean and neat, if slightly worn. We were given two smoke-free rooms joined by a common hallway and front door to accomodate 2 adults and three children. The housekeeping and reception staff were friendly and accomodating.

The wait staff in the hotel's Chinese restaurant were neither friendly nor proficient. Service was very slow from beginning to end. We were told two of the items we ordered were not available, but we were billed for them and, in fact, they were brought to our table after we paid the bill.

Internet use is charged on daily basis. The fee is pricey (120 Macao $/daily) and my connection was very poor. Check-in time is 2 pm. You'll do well to avoid arriving at that time.

I would not stay at the New Century again. For the same price, accomodations can be found much closer to Senado Square, shopping centers and the city center.

The swimming pool was closed for renovation during our stay, but it wasn't missed as there is much to see and do in Macao. The hotel has a game arcade and play area for children. The casino is well removed from the lobby and rooms, so noise and smoke are not problems. The casino itself is uninspired, and if you're in Macau to gamble you'll probably want to stay at one of the hotels in the center of town. As a matter of fact, whatever the purpose of your stay, you'll probably want to stay at one of the other hotels. Location is among the hotel's shortcomings. It is walking distance from a McDonalds and several Chinese restaurants, but little else. Shopping in and around the hotel is almost non-existent.

hotel: Hotel Casa Real

by pamychan

We were given this hotel by our travel agent. Location wise is quite ok, just beside the New Yaohan Shopping Centre. It is also supposedly walking distance from the HK-Macau ferry terminal but we still took a bus. About 4 to 5 stops. One thing to note about Macau's buses and roads. The roads seem really complicated, as a result, the bus routes seem to be always turning round and round the same area. So 4 to 5 stops is really quite near.

Buffet breakfast was included and it was quite good. Similar to a hotel breakfast from those beach resorts in Thailand and Malaysia.

One problem we encountered, we requested for a room on a non-smoking floor but were not given one. The smell was noticeable but still bearable.

Villas: Thats how they call them

by SusanitaL

These are small motels that offer cheap and clean rooms. There are a few villas close to the Lighthouse and charge about 130-180patacas per night. Be aware that rooms are harder to find at the weekends, tend to be full.

East Asia Hotel: Bit better

by SusanitaL

With prices very similar to Central Hotel, this place offers a better place for the price. It is cleaner, staff is friendly and still close to everything in town. If you are travelling on a budget and want to stay somewhere central, I would recommend this place.

Very central

Central Hotel: Do not come here!

by SusanitaL

This must be one of the oldest hotels in Macao. I do not recommend it to anybody! The sheets looked dirty, the bathroom was grim, the roof was falling apart and the carpet is completly stained. Thats not all, the bottom floor was full of prostitutes!! You can definitely find a better place for that price if travelling on a budget.

None at all.

Metropole Hotel: Metropole Hotel: Practical yet Cozy

by delski

This is undeniably the best hotel resort for practical travelers like me. We stayed there last weekend and we didn't expect the place to be so good. It's very accessible and convenient. It is situated right at the heart of the city. It's just a 3 minutes walk from the Senado Square. It's also 20 steps away fromt the supermarket (no 7-Eleven around) and when you turn right on the corner, you'll spot Mc Donald's. It's also close to the bus stations. Very accommodating and nice hotel staff. Two thumbs up for Metropole! :D Just remember to book at asiatravel.com to get a better rate

They give you a steady supply of toothbrushes, soaps, shower caps every day. They even have disposable sandals. Really unexpected for a very affordable hotel like them.
