Weekend at Genting
by rh_beads
The Genting Express ride from 1-Utama is the most convenient facility ever introduced by Genting. My last trip up to Genting was by car was almost 10 years ago - and I didnt really enjoy driving along the Karak Highway. Hence the introduction of the bus is real welcome. It is efficient, bus is clean and comfortable. Over the weekend of Jan 26-27 2008 it only took us 1 hour to get from 1-Utama to the lower Genting skyway cable car terminal. I love the weather. It was a cool weekend of Jan 26 to 27 2008. The winds were blowing and rather foggy. But twas a real good break from the hot, humid and dusty KL city. It was my first time at First World hotel, and I was told much earlier that the rooms were small. But honestly it was just sufficient. There's so many activities going on until 1am on Sat night, you will find you only need to go back to your room when ur feet sores from too much walking. There is a lot of walking involved but in the cold weather it is rather comfortable.
Expensive accomodation

Accomodation and food is very expensive up there in Genting. What I would suggest is that you book yourself a hotel/guesthouse in KL and take a bus to Genting. It is cheap and takes less than 2 hours. Buy snacks from KL and bring them up.
*this tip only applies to travellers who are travelling shoestring style
Genting Highlands through the years (part 1)
by victorwkf
I have been to Genting Highlands several times since I was young (about 10 years old) and have seen the tranformation and expansion of the place into a huge entertainment centre. Genting Highlands is perhaps my first travel out of Singapore as my family could not afford trips to destinations too far away from Singapore then. Genting Highlands has always been a favourite place for the locals as well as Singaporeans who went there mainly for the casino (for the adults) and the various games, rides, arcades (for the children). Genting Highlands always upgrade itself and expand and this is a very good move to attract repeated tourists back here as there is always something new coming up. Attached are some photos of Genting Highlands about 20 years ago when I visited during my younger days :)
Try your luck in the casino

Genting has a soothing climate unlike the hot and humid conditions in Kuala Lumpur. There is a large amusement park and casino built here.
You can take the 1-hour taxi ride from Kuala Lumpur for around RM45-60, pending on the taxi driver's mood.
