I have found the Shangri-La Penang to be one of the best hotels in Penang. It's a typical 5 Star hotel (though some aspects of service not as expected) with a great location. Many splendid eateries around (yum yum!), as well as convenient access to shopping centres. Free shuttle to Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang or Golden Sands is great, as you get to enjoy the beach and its beautiful pools (really enjoyed the wonderful pool at Rasa Sayang) and inter-signing service allows you to dine without cash, just use your room card. Great hotel to stay in if you want to explore the city and enjoy the beach as well.

Pangkor Laut Resort by worm_star Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island located three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia in the Straits of Malacca. Situated on this exotic island is the internationally acclaimed Pangkor Laut Resort. Although the island encompasses a total of 300 acres, only a fraction has been developed to house the Resort and its Estates while the rest is covered by lush and unspoiled two million year old rainforest.
There are 148 Malaysian-style luxury villas in the main Pangkor Laut Resort and eight magnificent Estates in a nearby secluded cove. Every villa, suite and Estate is elegantly designed and furnished, yet complements and blends in with the surrounding natural environment. As the island is only accessible to the guests of the Resort and Estates, it makes the perfect private holiday getaway. The Resort offers many fine dining opportunities, a wide range of facilities and activities, and has been widely praised for its attentive and gracious service. Voted the second best island destination in the world by Condé Nast Traveller (October 1999 issue), Pangkor Laut Resort consistently ranks high on the itinerary of international pleasure seekers.

An excellent hotel near to the main shopping area. Staff very helpful and friendly. Sumptuous room (Mutiara Room) with a HUGE walk in shower. Vast breakfast buffet spread with everything you could possibly require. Pool quite small but adequate. I would definately stay again.

by kismet270 This hostel has a great rooftop balcony with views of pretty much every building in KL except for the Twin Towers. Dorms are ok, with air con. Lounges are big and spacious and nicely decorated. Theme: HostelComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: NO 14, Jalan Riong off Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, KLPhone: 60 03 3238136/34

Shangri-la hotel in Penang has to be one of the most conveniently located hotels in Penang within walking distance to the Komtar Shopping Center. Just look for the tallest buiding in Penang. Many shops within walking distance. Theme: HotelDirections: Downtown

Palm Beach hotel by Helga67 In 1982, this was a good middle-class hotel at the beach of Batu Feringgi, one of the loveliest in Penang.
What I remember and liked most, was breakfast and dinner at the beach. The pic is taken from the hotel's terrace on the beach. You can see what wonderful view we had during breakfast and amazing sunsets (see my intro pic) during dinner. Theme: HotelAddress: 105-A Batu FeringgiDirections: Penang

Hotel at East coast by Helga67 Back in 1982, this was a very good hotel. I noticed on the net that it still exists, so I guess, it's still a nice place to stay at the East coast.
The design of this resort is derived from the elegantly crafted wooden palaces of Malay sultans with 17th century traditional Malay architectural structures. A very creative and interesting place to stay, in a mangrove forest with differently styled huts on the ground or up in the trees! The verandah and the river terrace are excellent chill-out spots. The place is perfect to relax and unwind for a couple of days! The ambiance is very friendly and peaceful and the boss Aziz also speaks German. So it is very likely to meet Germans, Swiss and Austrians here!
