Silam Dynasty Hotel: Comfortable, clean and friendly
Lahad Datu is not a resort or prime destination for most travelers, therefore the accommodation that is there is modest but perfectly adequate.
Silam Dynasty Hotel had friendly staff that courteously answered our questions and made a few phone calls to assist in our endeavors.
The rooms were very clean, even the bathrooms had a near hospital sterilization clean to them.
Unique Quality: Rooms had cable TV, air conditioning.
Bathrooms were equipped with towels and soaps.
Free breakfast from 6:30 ~ 10:30am
Free WiFi access.
Free parking with security guard.

Royal Hotel & Spa: Not recommended
We drove around the city and checked out a few hotels. Of those that had rooms available within a moderate budget, we asked to see some of the rooms before registering.
The room that was shown to us had no windows, was damp and smelled of mold. Even the hallways had the infamous musty smell. Maybe those rooms with a view have windows that can be opened to ventilate the rooms a bit, but the entire complex is an old concrete building that needs a bit of upkeep.
