Tip 2
A very old house of Batu Pahat is always so good to be here in photo. This kind of old architecture is abundant in the town centre of Batu Pahat. The happiness of visiting smaller town is all about taking photos of old old things.

Does anyone know if I can contact/make a reservation at the Batu Pahat Rest House via e-mail? I could not find any e-mail address.
Thanks
Letha
Thank You John. I had checked that site earlier--it has a phone number, but no e-mail. Guess they still rustic with no e-mail :-) Sigh....trying to save the cost of a phone call from USA..
Hi.. I was recently in Batu Pahat (about a month back) and even I had trouble getting them on email...
there are a few other places to stay in batu pahat (3 star hotels) that you can contact directly...
There's Garden Hotel, Crystal Hotel, Pelican too that's fairly convenient and easy to find.. I'm pretty sure you can email them..
as for Batu Pahat rest house, I am guessing they are a bit more laid back and may communicate better via phone.. good luck and good travels!
Thank You Jessa. Yes I have Garden Hotel as my backup. I am just being silly nostalgic as I grew up in Batu Pahat and have not been back for 30 years! I used to live in a big wooden bungalow next to the Rest House and go to the high school down the hill. Imagine my surprise to find while surfing the internet that the Rest House was still there and functioning--I don't think my old house is there anymore. So I want to stay in the Rest House just for nostalgic reasons when I go back in October :-). I will give them a call...
Just want to let you know that I did go back to Batu Pahat after 35+ years and stayed at the Rest House earlier this month! The Rest House is still charming if worn out...for nostalgia you cannot beat it, especially for me since my school, TIGS, my previous house (s), one next to the Rest House, now a nursery school and the one at the roundabout, now gone (burnt down in 90s I believe) but where the famous 'Hilton' Lontong stall is are all still around. The Rest house has no e-mail or wifi... but I had made one phone call from US and another from Johor Bahru and we had our room... Would I stay there again, yes for its old charm...

Pay Rm11800.00 to get a Vietnamese wife, is a local BP custom. I heard from a local BP friend, they went in group to Vietnam to meet the girls and if OK, they will arrange for marriage. Feel free to make a phone call to the numbers listed.
This is a stone inscription regarding the origin of Batu Pahat, its a history indeed but I was told that the history of BP has several versions, this is probably one of them. This version is something where the Siamese came here to dig a big hole on a rock later they left and the place thus got the name.
Like in any towns within Malaysia, modernisation beckons. So too for Batu Pahat. This town has a history that belts back to the 15th century. This town stands second only to Johor Bahru in terms of growth and is known for their textiles.
But like any good Asian, the most natural thing that we always try to do is to look for good food and a great place to relax. If that is what you're looking for, then Batu Pahat is such a place for you.
The town now see three big shopping malls, catering to the shopping needs of the township of about 500,000 residents. This is commercialisation at its best, and is seen in every town, not that we can do anything but to embrace these changes. But Batu Pahat still holds its old charm, possibly due to the fact that the town is not situated close to the North-South Highway. From the highway, one has to exit at Ayer Hitam and then drive west for about 40 kilometres before reaching Batu Pahat.
But that should never deter you from visiting Batu Pahat. So go forth and explore!
Q: Where is Crystal Inn ? "Can someone please help me as to where Crystal Inn hotel is, in relation to Jalan Jenang in Batu Pahat? I have a relative living..."
A: "Ask your relative?? They should know best :-)"
