Pasar Malam

by LilAbner

Good and very helpful location listing of Pasar Malams by A2002. But, the information is almost 8 years old. Can someone who follows the PM scene be kind enough to give an update on locations of PMs in JB. Thanks.

There are night markets all over Johor but the largest and most popular is the once a week (Tuesday) pasar malam at Johor Jaya.

Pelangi pasar malam is a great night market - also on a Tuesday. It is located a couple of blocks behind Plaza Pelangi.

There is also one near the Holiday Plaza shopping centre which is on Mondays.

They are the only ones I know as haven't been there on other days of the week!

Travel Tips for Johor Bahru

Money in JB

by Ewingjr98

Malaysian money is called the Ringgit. It is valued at about 2.22 Ringgit to the Singapore Dollar. After exiting customs, and walking through the pedestrian underpass towards central JB, you will find a well-marked money exchange in a small shop on the main road. As you might expect, it is surrounded by taxis and cons, like sharks circling an injured swimmer...

This is one of the only money exchanges I saw, but there were a few ATMs in the waterfront area and the central market area.

JB is famous in S'pore as being very inexpensive, so it's a popular destination for a day-trip for shopping.

Folk dances

by solopes

I spent only a couple of hours in Johor Bahru, time enough to bring a good impression of local hospitality.

Of course, most of it was performed for tourists, in a commercial environment, but... being received with folk dancing is one of the best ways to touch me. And they did.

Ponderosa Golf & Country Club

The 18-holes par-72 course is designed by Max Wexler... The short course plays to 6,005m from the blue tees... The outgoing Nine is longer at 3,121m with the incoming Nine at 2,884m... The course is designed by blending with the natural terrain thus preserving the natural landscape and tropical foliage... It comes with enough sand traps and water hazards to provide a challenging round of golf... Golfers can see the skyline of Johor Baru as well as Singapore from vantage points on the course... The prominent clubhouse is of Spanish-Mediterranean architecture... Besides the usual men and ladies changing rooms, there is a pro-shop... There is also a driving range for those who need to warm up before a round of golf... The Golfers Terrace is for a quick meal before, during and after the golf game... Both western & local food are served at Cantina Sports Pub & Cafe... Chinese cuisine is available at the Hop Sing Chinese Restuarant...

Golfer needing accomodation can stay at any of the 16 guest rooms at the clubhouse... There are also 2 executive suites...

An Evening Walk

by ngcsc

Take a short walk at Stulang Laut (Jalan Ibrahim Sultan), enjoy the breezy evening.

You might have some local food at the local restaurant or some street vendor, you might see someone enjoying water sport or alternative water activities, and you might some student after the school hour during the school day..... this is the lifely experience of Johor local life.
