Seen Better Days But Still OK
The start of our stay at this resort was marvellous. Cold towel to refresh ourselves after a 2-hour drive from Singapore. The front desk was also trying to be nice to us with their big, wide smile and they provided us with directions on how to get their local food.
Stepping in the room, their little touch of placing chocolates in the shape of golf balls was a very nice touch though room-wise, it could do with some renovation.
Unique Quality: This resort has a very big ground that includes bowling alleys, a swimming pool, archery, mini soccer field, table tennis, squash and many more.
If you're not into sports, then the food is also quite a draw. It's not just buffet meal, but local delights served by staff behind cute little food carts.

Golf & Spa Oasis
We have used this hotel for overnight accomodation on two ocassions. Initially we chose it from the Airasia website as a cheap stop over close to the Senai Airport . Airasia is a low cost carrier that flies to a large number of Malaysian destinations. From Johor Bahru we've flown to Penang in 2004 & then to Kota Kinnabalu in 2005. This hotel was one of the nicest surprises of that first holiday. It was the first time ever that I had booked accomodation over the internet without any advice or help from my travel agent. My surprise was how nice this hotel was. The rooms were spacious & clean loads of room in the large kingsize bed. The buffet breakfast included with the nights accomodation was a great start to the day especially as we had to be at the airport 2 hours before our flight time. We were asked to wait while they prepared our room but they did have a lounge area with a TV for us to watch while we waited. I guess if it hadn't been raining the kids would have gone for a swim in their large pool. Our second stay was a late night arrival into JB so the short taxi ride to this hotel was good. We had a very tired 8yr old & this time we were checked in very quickly. Again the room was clean.
Unique Quality: The one outstanding features of this hotel is that it is 25-35 minutes north of the bustling border town of Johor Bahru. It is an oasis of calm as it is set in the grounds of a fantastic golf course. The views looking out over the course & gardens is wonderful. The hotel also has a very large pool to swim in. For the ladies there is a day spa but I've never stayed long enough to use it. The hotel also drives you to the airport if you request it.

Popular golf course across the 2nd Link
We stayed at Sofitel about 3 years back. The food then wasn't great but most people went for the golf. This time, we found the rooms getting a bit run-down. But the level of service from the staff has improved. Not to say there can't be more improvements, but we could see the competence & initiative of some staff. The rooms could be spruced up a little and they definitely need to get a new supply of room towels. Most were threadbare and there was a situation of not having enough cos all rooms were fully taken up. We had to wait a whole day to get fresh ones.
The food at the Ishwara has improved tremendously. We had the buffet dinner and also the buffet breakfast every morning.
It is a nice place to go for R & R, a short break away from Singapore.
Unique Quality: Nice for walks pass the golf course or driving range.
They have nice pools, a recreation one with wading pool for kids & a Olympic sized one at the recreation building.
There's a Sports and recreation building with a 6-lane Bowling Alley, 2 Pool tables and 1 Biliard table, squash courts, lawn tennis, a small gym.
Just a note though that all the facilties need sprucing up.
For those who drive in, there's a car wash and polish service. We were quite happy with the polish service. Car wash @RM$10 Wash, vacuum, polish & wax @RM$70. Call Ganesh 016-7110260

Sing airport to Sofitel Johor Bahru
Hi, Can anyone give me some options on how to get from Singapore airport to Johor Bahru ? What will these options cost ? Thanks for your responses. -

Options 1: cheapest but longest by MRT and bus
Changi airport to Kranji or Marsiling MRT station. Transfer to bus 170, 160, 950 or CW1 to Kota Raya Bus terminal, johore, malaysia. Take airport bus shuttle to Sofitel airport ---- SDG$1.90 +SGD$ 1+ RM$1
Option 2: fastest
Taxi from changi airport to Queen Street bus terminal. transfer to special taxi all the way to Sofitel airport. SGD$15 -18 + SGD$50.
Please note that there is a 50% surchage if you take taxi in singapore between 12 midnight till 6 am.
