Hotel Bluewave: Nice Suite

It is spacious and cheap. Stayed in the suite there, with 2 rooms and a living room. A nice place to stay for 8 ppl. Although the location is abit out of the way, it is still easy to get a taxi. You can also see Singapore if your room face the sea.

Unique Quality: Spacious suite.

Compact Hotel: First hotel over the border

This is the first hotel I saw after I crossed over into Malaysia from Singapore. It's basically a good quality budget hotel. There are spacious rooms, it's comfortable, everything is clean and works properly and the staff are efficient. The location is good and you're just a two minute walk from restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

I paid 130 ringgit for one night with buffet breakfast. They take all major credit cards too. There were cheaper options around, but this was the cheapest "new-looking" hotel. It served its purpose for the one night I was there anyway. I probably wouldn't stay here again if I was by myself but I was travelling with the wife, she'd be happy here.

Rasa Sayang Hotel: Good budget hotel

I used this hotel whilst moving between flats (or rather downgrading from a condo to a flat). Rasa Sayang is a comfrtable hotel with fair room size (better than other budget hotels) and is safe, secure and quiet. It is in it's own grounds (not a terraced building) and is showing her age a little, but is nicely decorated with a pleasent resturant (can do breakfast too) and large lobby / reception. Hotel is located just outside of the city centre, about 10-15 min walk to Jln Wong Ah Fook, KOMTAR etc.

I had a nice and pleasent stay with no problems at all. Rooms here are around RM60 to RM70 per night and are waaay better than the hotels around the causeway, this is not an "hourly" hotel.

Unique Quality: Showing it's age a little but pleasent and well and htoughtfully decorated and for a budget hotel, very spacious. The resturant is pleasent and the area is quiet, pleasnrt low rise area with open space, yet still witihin walking distance of the city centre. This really is the best budget hotel option in JB.

Nearest buses are on Jln Wong Ah Fook. Reception can call a taxi if you wish. Train station is a walkable distance but you can use a cab if got luggage. Same for the checkpoint.

Compact Hotel JB (Formerly known as Mercure Ace): Good & bad advantages of Compact Hotel JB

Breakfast: only 4 buffet's food servers. Food taste funny i hope it's bcz of the way it's cook.milk was expired, it tasted sour. #Saturday morning: When i want to take honeystar, i saw a cockroaches inside the container.. Oh god.. *fainted* I told the servers, One went change the honeystar for me, she came out back v half full honeystar inside the same container w/o wash.

Friday aftnn: When we came back to the hotel, a ceiling was taken out, it's opened & There was a water breakage, water r dripping down from above, the hotel put a bedsheet under a pail to collect water. Carpet is wet. The ceiling now looks like one in a haunted hse, water spots were everywhere water dripping down. If u watched the movie 'Dark Water', u know wat i mean. It wasn't that terrible yet, still, it was sth like tat. *scary*

It's 10pm, we reached back the hotel. It was more horrible this time. The pail was full, water still dripping, breakage became bigger, the wet water dripping spot is spreading, towards our room.. the paint on the ceiling has water spot & water bubble all over it. I cant think of anything else but the movie Dark Water. Truly same kind of water spot, and it spreading, coming to my room, towards my door.

So I called the receptionist, tell her abt this horrible thing happening. She said she will send somebody up. We waited, but none came, and u know wat, we hear some sizzling noise like sth hot with cold water, so we went & check out what happened, a look closer this time. There's this painting hanging on the wall, & a long light bulb lighting it. Water r driipng on to this hot light bulb, the light bulb is half off, this 'caber' inside the light bulb is hot, looks orange fire-like. I was shock by what happened, & the hotel is not doing anything. Electric cable of the light bulb is exposed to water, & it might easily cause a fire or any accident. I asked for a room changed now. The carpet was all wet from the opened ceileing area to in front of my door when we leave our room.

It was really a horrible stay.

Unique Quality: Th only thing which is outstanding abt this hotel is its strategic location. Besides this, nothing else.

Anyway, Compact hotel is a really good location hotel as u can walk to City Square, where most buses pass by & u can go almost everywhere taking the bus if u know the way. Can easily buy any groceries as a lot of shops r nearby. Near the custom as well, good location if u r going to S/pore. Only Rm7/8 to go to Pelangi Mall/Tmn Sri Tebrau, Danga Bay, Holiday Plaza, or Larkin Bus Stn. Can walk from Kotaraya (15minutes), where the Senai Airport coach stops. Too bad they don't have a good management team, that's their main advantage, anything related to management can goes wrong if u plan to stay there, so if u r okay to face all these, I would recommend this hotel to u. The room rate is Rm115, Rm 145+- if inclusive of taxes. If u ask me, I will say it's not really a value stay, but it's really strategically located.

Pan Pacific Johore: Slow?

We stayed at Pan Pacific. Nice hotel, nice food some friendly and some not friendly staff and slow service. What I meant slow was, slow check in procedure and I called the housekeeping asking for iron and iron board and only after half an hour I can get the iron.
The next day we were rushing to dinner and we came back to the room to take quick bath and found out no towels so I have to call the housekeeping again to ask for the towel and only after 45 minutes they send to the room! For a 5 stars hotel of course I expect good quality service, I will fully understand if its only a normal hotel like no star hotel..hmm.. Maybe my expectation too high eh? or as the 5 basic rules to stay happy ' Expect less?'

Around town.: Budget accommodation.

There are many small, budget accommodation near the Johor central police station, near Jalan Wong Ah Fook. Majority of them have air condition. They call themselves "hotel".

I have not seen any websites for these small hotels. I think you can just walk in and ask for a room and the price.

Hotel Johor Bahru in the Centre of TownI reall: A place to spend a night in Johor Bahru

To me the snake charmers who set up their medicinal tents and play the lute at night and the crowd eagerly listening is the sight enough for me.
adequate accomodation, just rudimentary, across from the night market and food stalls.

Unique Quality: Very central. walking distance of the immigration halls entering Malaysian soil.
wouldnt recommend it for more than one night though. somewhat shady with women and men looking somewhat seedy.. ill repute

Pan Pacific.: Near Customs.

It is near the customs and beside a shopping mall called Kotaraya. It is very near to many government offices and buildings. The famous old Chinese temple believed to be very sacred is around there too.

Hotel Hawaii.: Hotel Hawaii.

Unique Quality: At 1999 the place was a real rat-hole. Beds were full of fleas and something crawling creatures. Carpets were torn-out and in the bathtube was one extra hole in the bottom...
It might be better nowadays, but check the room before signing in.
