A resort not to get excited about

On approach to this imposing frosted pink Mediterranean style hotel, it looked like it held good fortune and peaceful relaxation. It couldn't have been further from the truth. After a moderately quick check-in we wandered down to the two rooms we had booked. On this walk we passed various piles of dirty plates, half eaten food and other paraphernalia along the corridor floor. This was about 10pm.

As it turned out the one we arrived at smelt as if it had been freshly painted though one look at the peach walls seem to suggest otherwise and a run of ants travelling back and forth over the sink top in the bathroom. The other room our friend was staying in had a very strong aroma of cigarettes. We decided this wasn't acceptable and already knowing there were other rooms available (from previous discussion with the receptionist), we were given a bunch of keys and allowed to choose which rooms we would prefer. We decided on two adjoining rooms which were the best out of the 5. After settling into the room, on closer inspection, the towels provided were spotted with brown and yellow stains. It was the same when it came to a couple of the bed sheets. This was really disappointing as the bare minimum we would wish for was cleanliness even if the rooms were basic and worn around the edges.

The next morning about 9am, we went out and the food, plates, leftovers from room service etc were still in the corridor. In fact there was probably more. The pool was ok but not spectacular. There were leaves, twigs and cigarette butts floating in the water. It didn't seem to improve during the week we were there. There was only a fewer sun loungers available than the number of people wanting to use them. The slides and design of the pool were fun and good for children and there was a pool bar for the adults. My concern is that they never seemed to clean the pool. We came back to the room about 11am and the plates were still in the corridor which rice now scattered along the floor.

Other items we observed in the corridor outside our room were underwear and used condoms. I attempted to change our towels on various occasions with the hotel staff and even though freshly laundered (they were still warm), I failed to find one that didn't have a stain. We opted to buy our own towels and disinfectant to clean the bath/shower room. The toilet leaked in our bathroom.

The buffet breakfast was like a horror story. It was like people had never seen food before. The cereal was all over the floor, the cheese was man-handled by at least 10 people when I was waiting for my toast to come through the machine. The juice ran out and so did the bread and it wasn't replenished. It wasn't a relaxing care-free meal to start the day on. I would recommend getting breakfast out of the hotel as there are plenty of restaurants/cafes close to the hotel.

The hotel is about 3 minute walk to a lovely sandy beach and they have deck chairs available for $10 and they are worth a shot if you can't get a space at the hotel pool-side. Mid-week it is quieter and the hotel more bearable.

All in all I wouldn't recommend.

Unique Quality: Restaurant - Basic - room service, lunch and dinner available, Buffet breakfast - not great.
Club/Pool Bar - Alcohol is available
BBQ bar - lunches available
Massage place - $40+
Gym - basic but available
Volleyball court - in disarray. No one used it.
Pool with 3 water slides, kids pool, 3 areas all connected. Not particularly clean. No life-saver, would you your own responsibility.
Concierge service at reception area
No views to note - 3 minute walk to the beach, relatively quiet area.

Not-so-cheap place to stay in Langkawi :-)

What makes this place so convenient, is its vicinity to Pantai Tengah and Pantai Cenang - about 5-10 minutes walk away.

Unique Quality: Many rooms in this hotel, so its a good choice if you are going to be there during any peak season. Other than that, the pool is supposedly the longest in Malaysia.

Hi

what would be the convenient and economical way of geting to langkawai other than a direct flight to there. travelling through malaysia will also give us an opportunity to take in some malysian culture etc.

we request members who have used the above resort or have opinion about it to let us know what we can possibly expect staying at this resort. so far we have read mixed reviews ( unfornunately mostly negative about the maintenance cleanliness of the rooms and staff attitude ).

do include the do's and dont's at this place and the islands in general.

and of course the all time favourites of us all - the eateries and shopping. any guidelines will be appreciated.

regards
musaphir

Hi there!!! You can try the Senandung Langkawi train (sleeping couch ) to Arau station. The train will reach there at about 6a.m. From there, take a bus to Kangar bus station. Reaching the station, u can see buses to Kuala Perlis. Only about RM2.00. I stayed at the Aseania Resort Langkawi last year. To be honest, I don't recommend anyone to stay there unless you have transportastion of your own. From the hotel to Kuah, one has to pay RM20. Imagine that is only for a single trip to town. The hotel is nice though but just too far from town. There are no buses to town from the hotel. Shopping in Kuah is cheaper compared to other places. Enjoy your trip!!!
