It's a little far from the "town", but a taxi is so cheap it's not a problem.
We ate in the hotel a few times and some places were quite good (we found room service to be quite good), but also went into town etc to eat (which was often better and more traditional).
The pool was a great place to relax, swim or grab a drink or bite to eat. Their private beach is just below the horizon pool and it was great to be able to go between the two.
There were animals and birds everywhere, it was beautiful. The spa at the hotel was also excellent and very relaxing - great massage and coconut body scrub!!

This picture shows the "treehouse" accomodation at Berjaya Langkawi. Of course they have more luxurious ones built in the sea, but that was out of my budget.
The treehouses are fun to live in. Not utterly smooth finishings, it's about 3 star.
What's fun - waking up to see 3 monkeys in the trees from the balcony, waking up to the sounds of the cicadas(?), see a monitor lizard at my door when we came back in the night. Keep the balcony doors closed to prevent mosquitos and bugs and monkeys from entering!
Dont worry about getting to & fro the hotel lobby. Just call them for the free shuttle service (in a tram).

The resort comprises about 6 to 8 four storey blocks which are built around 3 fabulous swimming pools, jungle planting and waterways filled with fish.
Check in occurs in the room where guests are treated to refreshing cool towels , delicious welcoming drinks and fresh tropical fruit. The Bayu Suria is actually a suite, which includes the bedroom, two lounging areas, massive bathroom with a retractable wall of shutters, writing and dressing area, a balcony looking out to the ocean and a rear balcony looking out to the waterways and gardens.
Daily tropical fruit, flowers and hand made chocolates and papers are all complimentary. Each day a daily activities sheet outlines some complimentary options you can engage in. Guests can also access the two internet studios as part of the complimentary services. Each room is also equipped with CD/ DVD player and each lounge has a TV, one being a large flatscreen. Each room also comes complete with Siegefriedo coffee machine. Heaven !
This resort offers a mix of Thai/ Malay hospitality and all staff greet guests with the hand on heart traditional greeting. The mechanics of running a top resort are not obvious to the guests here and you will come away feeling quite rested.
The resort has three pools including the new horizon pool, a sandy bottom lagoon style pool and a more traditional, pool with fountains and swim up bar. You can learn about local craft at the Artisans hut and eat local hawker food where some of the staff like to go just at the edge of the property. The beach is private but the resort owners allow local Malay families to fish and gather shell fish at the sand bank. At low tide you can walk to the offshore islands and the view to Thailand is always glorious. The sports centre offers the usual water sports and the resort biologist runs great ecotours into the mangroves. All three restaurants are for the exclusive use of guests and every night the sounds from the string quartet and baby grand piano playing in the open air lounge will waft around the resort.
The international breakfast buffet is presented in the open air Sands restaurant and that is a dining experience in itself. There is the opportunity for alfresco, Malay, meditteranean and fine dining (but you can also wander down to the hawker food area on the border of the resort and try some deep fried bananas for 2 rm). As you laze on the beach in the shade of Casuarinas, staff will provide you with towels, cool refreshments and chilled fruit on skewers. All part of the divine service offered by Tanjung Rhu. Set along a beautiful stretch of white sand beach - Pantai Kok. It is a crescent shaped bay, and is shared by Berjaya and its neighbour Mutiara Resort. The beach is busy though, so grab those beach chairs early ... after your breakfast.

- live like tarzan and jane in the wooden chalets built into the rainforest where the resort is nestled in
- the resort is near to the cable car which is a must-do !

The deluxe rooms feature a combined bedroom and living area with balcony. Rooms are furnished with a king-size bed, private bar, a writing desk and two comfortable day beds. The spacious bathroom and dressing room feature twin vanities, bathtub and shower.
The individual freestanding villas are built high up in the tropical rainforest, connected to public facilities by a series of pathways scattered throughout the forest. They feature a private deck with sun lounges and an elevated verandah which can be used for private dining.
The corner and end suites include a spacious bedroom with en suite bath, a large bedroom and separate living area with dining table. All suites open out to a spacious balcony.
The Datai Suite has two bedrooms, an expansive living room with separate dining area along with a fully equipped kitchen. Surrounded by a large balcony finished in sandstone, it provides panoramic ocean views.
Pool villas have all the features of villas plus a private deck with daybed and 3 metre x 4 metre plunge pool.
The Datai’s four Pool Suites are located down near the beach next to the Beach Club. Every two suites share a living and dining area linked by covered walk-way, where there is also a fitted kitchen.
It is necessary to reserve two pool suites in order to enjoy privacy in this area.
