weather and hotel in september

by mdoad

Hi

Please could someone help me. i am about to book a holiday with my wife to langkawi in mid september.

Firstly, i am worried about the weather. I have read its monsoon season, so how will this effect our holiday, as we plan to lounge around the Pool and sunbathe on the beach in the daytime

Secondly, can some one reccomend me a hotel.....i am thinking between the following 3

meritus pelangi
andaman
westin resort and spa

my budget is 300-400 u.s dollars a night

which of the above 3 hotels have the best pool and beach.

thanks

Hello!

The weather on Langkaw is really nice through the year, temperatures remain fairly constant, and in September the average high temperatures hover around 30°C and the lows 23°C. More important though is the rain factor, or the moonsoon. Since rainy season starts on September there are about two hours of rain per day (usually one of these two hours take place at night) but the rest of the day is quite sunny, so it shouldn't keep you from travelling.

Hope you have a great trip!

Sarah

Personally I would take the Meritus Pelangi as the others tend to be away from the local cafes and street scenes. The beach at Pantai Cenang is also very good and you shouldn't have a problem with the pool area at Pelangi. However, if you actually want to be away from the local scenes and have more privacy on the beach then the Andaman or Westin are both better. The weather also shouldn't be wet enough for long enough each day to be a problem for your beach and pool time.

I wouldn't be to worried about the monsoon. It's not like it'll rain continuously, day in & day out. Most likely what you'll get is heavy rain interspersed with periods of sunshine. There'll be enough sunshine for beach & pool activities.

The Meritus Pelangi is situated at a place called Pantai Cenang, good for beach sports & lots of places to eat. I've just returned from a long weekend in Langkawi & stayed at this hotel. IMO it's a nice hotel/resort, but could do with renovations & updating of facilities. The pool is nice, and the hotel has 2 swimming pools and is right next to the beach. The room I stayed in was spacious.

I'd advise against the Andaman unless you do not intend to venture out of the hotel. It's located in the NW part of Langkawi and is relatively isolated. Getting around or going to Kuah (the main town on the island) will be difficult or inconvenient.

I've not stayed at the Westin, so I can't comment. I have read though that it's near Kuah & getting around is easy.

Travel Tips for Pulau Langkawi

A Pulau Langkawi General Tip

by l_joo

I have been here twice but was long time ago during my high school time with friends to visit to expect something very unexpected very nothing actually attracts me except buying no duty cigarettes and liquors but unfortunately none are in my list, therefore I spent 2 not so satisfying trip to Langkawi and don't feel to return unless a real big revolutionary change for me to go back to have a look. If I want to visit the Malay village, I have hundreds better locations to go, why spend the time here to look at this.

Sorry, not really a custom, just advice

If you are feeling hassled by hotel staff or locals asking where you are from etc just try walking around with a friend (preferably male if you are female - males, and women with children do not get hassled so much)

The Lush green Langakawi landscape deserves some exploration!
Grab your free maps from the airport and try to discover all the waterfalls in the region if you have the time. Remember your suntan lotion and wear gd hiking shoes. The waterfall areas can be dangerous and slippery with mossy green algae.

Just drive to explore

by ahcoln

If you rent a car or motorbike, you can reach almost every place in the Island. Just be relax and drive to any place at your will. There is always some scenic view or interesting sight that stop you for a photo. Don't waste any of your second.

Duty Free

by Scottyj36

Mostly lots of duty free shops. Things here are cheaper than on the mainland. No barganing in the stores. There are some shop lots that sell local items and you can bargin. Some shops to see are "Jetty Point" Kamdar, Kraft Malaysia. Commercial area of Kuah Town. Langkawi Mall. The usual things in the Duty Free shops, Liquor, electronics, clothes, chocolets, high end perfumes, Rolexes.
