Caressing by the Night Breeze
Lying lazily on the deck chair, sipping a chilly imported beer, munching some mixed nuts, caressing by the night breeze, counting the stars. Wow, it's really an unforgettable experience with my hubby !

Hello all,
We will be visiting Langkawi for only one day :-( and time will be very short as we are on a cruise ship.
Can anyone tell me the best things to do please? I love to shop for bargains are there any good markets or Malls?
We will be visiting on a Friday and arrive at the dock at 8am, can we get a taxi from the Dock and how long does this take?
Thanks so much in advance for your help.
Cheers
Steph
Steph, if you only have one day and you like shopping then Kuah Town is the place to go. I assume your cruise will be docking close by rather than over towards the other side of the island near Pantai Tengah so it's a short taxi ride to the shops and malls. In addition to the modern shops don't ignore the local "malls" that appear fairly rustic on the outside but have many bargains inside including "designer" style handbags below the counter (please note that I am not encouraging brand copying). If you dock further away it's no real hassle as it's a 30 minute taxi ride and cheap rates. Another point about Langkawi is that all alcohol is duty free so you don't get stung by high prices for beers or wine.
There is no public transportation in Langkawi. My suggestion is you rent a car/taxi for the day so that you can cover more ground. It is a very hot place, walking can be very inconvenient.
They have a lot of duty free shops in Langkawi if you are looking for those. For souvenirs, I would recommend that you visit the Craft Cultural Complex, it showcases all Malaysia handicrafts, little pricey though. In general, it is not cheap in Langkawi.
Dont forget to visit Perdana Gallery. This is a hidden gem. Its a mosque that houses many gifts for Dr Mahatmir. For someone like me who has not been to a mosque before, this is very pretty.
I went to Langkawi recently. I took the cable car. It is an amazing view. If you have time, you should go there if time permit. There are many individual shops, like a small shopping village, at the base of the cable car and so you can kill two birds with one stone.
As to your querry, I have just added a page in the langkawi segment. Hope the info helps
Hi Stepwalk,
Fantastic, thanks so much for your information. I am soooo glad I can have a shop there and I will take your advise.
Thanks again you have been very helpful.
Cheers

there are no shortage of these scene in Langkawi. There are so many places where you could sit down at a beach and enjoy either sunrise or sunset. It was amazing to experience such a wonderful view. It is so energetic and it calms you down from inside.
Prepare a sunglass, cap, sandal & Singlet or Sleeveless T-shirt. The weather is hot & humid, don't ever try to wear like a business man. There is no business for you in Langkawi but only fun. Wear as sunny as possible!
No idea what this cave was called but it appears the only way you can gain access to it is by boat. Northeast part of the island. We took the dinghy in and walked through the cave and it opened up into a mangrove jungle.
I forgot to take note of the name of the shopping mall but the supermarket in there sells a wide choice of good quality cigars, cigarettes and alcohol. Wine, scotch, rum, brandy, tequila, gin, bacardi, vodka, beer... (you get the picture) Compared to a crate of 24 cans of Carlsberg for RM118 on sale in Kuala Lumpur you pay RM36 in Langkawi.
Compared to RM48.00 for a bottle of Malibu rum at the KLIA airport, you pay RM27.00 for the same in Langkawi.
