An unknown & uninhabited Langkawi beach

I've read a number of reviews on the Berjaya Langkawi Resort, and have noted criticism of room and food quality. We were thinking of staying in a Junior Chalet on Water in June 2011.
Anyone recently stayed in one of these rooms?

If you read reviews, there will be some praising their rooms whilst others have not so complimentary things to say.
The rooms have not been refurbished in a while and there are the general wear and tear, some rooms worst than others. The higher end rooms seems to have been better kept, in part as a result of the type of clientele staying in such rooms. As a whole the rooms are not too bad. Then again, by June 2011, they make have refurbished all the rooms.
If you are assigned a room you are not quite satisfied, make a bit of a fuss. Availability permitting, the Hotel will make very effort to put things right.
Hotel food has never been up there, preferring to try the local fare, be it at hawker centers or food courts or a restaurant outside the Hotel. That said, you'll probably have breakfast in the Hotel. The fare is adequate. Then again, I prefer my steaks medium rare but the wife can stand the sight of a bloodied meat. Food is subjective.
The ambiance and the resort is good so enjoy your stay and have the time of your life. Your stay is to a large extend what you make of it. Of course, along the way, a cosy place to sleep and some good food wont go amiss.

If you need to call home, buy a telephone card. Calling to England was very cheap (I think around 0.5 RM per minute. There is loads of phoneboxes on the Cenang beach road. Don't worry if some don't work - just walk to the next one. We tried 3 phoneboxes before we were able to be connected with England :-))
This tidbit was shared by our driver while we visited the Underwater World in Langkawi. Apparent during the end year (around late December to perhaps early January), there would be a squid season where the fishermen would catch a huge amount of squids in the seas off Langkawi. Instead of selling all the squids, the fishermen would make what they called 'ketupat sotong' meaning squid rice cakes. They would scoop rice into the body of the squid and then boil the squid in a huge pot. The flavour of the squid would seep into the rice and they would eat it as they normally do during their meals.
This is only done once a year during the season and only by the local fishermen. It is not a tourist thing nor can you buy it anywhere in Langkawi and you can only see it if you know someone local who can invite you to the occassion. Apparently the feasting on this treat can go on for days or weeks.
Langkawi Yacht Club offers impressive facilities such as waterfront, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna, deep sea fishing, sailing, scuba diving, jet skiing and speed boats. You can hire a yacht to discover sunset tour. It is also good place for spending evening time. there are 51 berths places available.
Lots of monkeys on this island.Look out for them as you walk around the island.Be careful though. These seemingly cute creatures ain't no beanie babies, they can be quite dangerous . Don't agitate them, they'll bite! Also don't leave your diving or swimming gear lying around, those furry creatures might just model them....

This shop is about 2 to 3 storeys high. It is more a department store cum supermarket. It is indicated in the Langkawi map that you get from the airport.
I am not too sure about whether the prices are competitive, but there's a good range of things from food, drinks, chocolates to suitcases and electrical items
