We stayed at the AB hotel in cenang beach - basic but clean, and cheap and right on the beach - no alcohol in the muslim restaurant but Debbie (irish pub across the road). If you're looking for cheap accomodation and top location this is it

Just how cheap are you talking about? I can only recommend GeoPark Hotel. Their rooms answer your 3 Cs: cheap, clean, and cosy!

Beach Chalets at Pantai Cenang

by IoannaP

Thinking of visiting Langkawi in Mar 2007. I know it's a bit early to ask but thought of doing my research now.

I'll have 3 kids with me (ages range from 4 to 12 yrs old). We would like to stay at one of the chalets at Pantai Cenang. Pl let me know what options I have for about RM 100 per room per night. I've heard of Malibest, Sandy Beach, AB Motel, Melati Tanjung...

Are they clean? Air-conditioned?

Thanks in advance!

Hi I have stayed at A&B motel 3 times, challets are quite big with 2 king size beds, mini fridge, t.v. air con, and shower room. Prices range from 60myr for challet at back to 100myr for beach front detached. The semis have connecting door which you could probably do a deal on if you need more room, but the beds are really big and 3 little ones would probaby be o.k. I have always found them to be very clean and would deffinately reccommend you to have a look.

Thanks, Gill2520!

Think I'll check out AB then. Any idea if they take bookings via internet? Or do I have to call them? Do you have their contact number?

Thanks, again!

Travel Tips for Pulau Langkawi

Weather @ Langkawi

by bpacker

One thing to take note when you're going to a foreign place is the weather. Esp in Langkawi, there's really no point going there to trek the hills and waterfalls in rainy weather, is there? On the other hand, if you're going there to dive and you're a keen fan of drift diving, the rain won't really pose a problem.
Here's the weather chart for your convenience..

Typical Annual Weather Pattern:

Temp Rain Sun
deg C deg F mm inch hours
January 33 92 35 1 9
February 33 92 35 1 9
March 33 91 105 4 8
April 32 90 190 8 9
May 31 88 240 10 6
June 31 88 235 9 6
July 31 87 255 10 6
August 30 86 290 12 7
September 30 86 310 12 4
October 30 86 340 14 5
November 30 86 220 9 6
December 31 87 85 3 8 It was actually quite dry when I was in Langkawi, so dry that there wasn't much water left in the waterfalls! Grrr....

Get a good map from Airport / Car Rental / Resort

by ahcoln

Though it is always good to be prepared, but I hardly find a good Langkawi Tourist Map from Internet. It is either too small, low resolution or not suitable for tourist. The best place you can get a good tourist map is from the airport, car rental or hotel resort you will stay. Those maps are quite informative with all the tourists destination, shopping area and restaurants & main roads. Get a good map is essential and first thing you will want to do when you step into the island, as you probably will rent a car to explore the island.

the cable car

by call_me_rhia

Of the beaten path... only because it's off the main road... not because it's devoid of tourists. I'm talking about the cable car going up (and across) to Mount Gunung Macincang (708 metres high). The vertical part of the trip is quite interesting - and definitely not suited for people afriad of heights. Views from the top are spectacular, but it's only worth going there on a very clear day.

The cable car starts inside the very tacky Oriental Village, and it runs from 10/11 in the morning until 7 PM (I think). The price should be about 15 RM for adults and 5 RM for children.

Best view on the island

by kyoub

Gunung Raya Mountain is is the tallest mountain on Langkawi. The government ministers have meeting there regularly, if they are not using the bungalows , then the road is open. You can drive on a nice paved roads with a lot of bends and turns until you reach 881 meters above sea level. From the top you can see terrific views out over the island and sea

Sky mall

by catkin about Langkawi sky mall

You don't have to be leaving Langkawi to visit the sky mall which is situated at the airport-you can go anytime! My best buy here was Clarins cosmetics which were about half the price they are at home.
