We stayed there for three nights between the 5th & 8th April 2012 with four children. The place itself is old and average. The service is good. Staff are friendly and they try their best to please. Waiting for the buggy can be an issue sometimes and the staff needs to improve their English cause it was very difficult to communicate at times. The hotel is located only minutes walk from Cenang Beach, which contains many restaurants and shops.
This place is definitely not a 5-star.

Our haven....
Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa was indeed the right choice for our stay. The resort was nicely done up. Both their pool and beach were captivating. The open-view spa was also applaudable. Service was good and staff were very friendly.
Unique Quality: Great views, polite staff and friendly people...all around.

Great Place for Retreat
Overall 2 nights chalet stay were great. There are many facilities in the hotel itself with fitness centre, swimming pools, spa, mini golf!
Wide spread for buffet dinner and breakfast!!! Yum
Good place for relaxation but if you have your days packed with touring, seek alternative and value for money accomodation!

Langkawi Accomodation
full with friendly charms & gentle hospitality
Unique Quality: Pelangi would definitely be a good choice to stay as full with friendly charms & gentle hospitality and it's located just right beside a white sandy beach where you can enjoy the breath taking view and this is a resort for a carefree geteaway. Apart from that, it will be an ideal place for family, epecially those with childrend would like to stay in Pelangi.

Not 5 star
We stayed 8 nights in February 2009 for relaxation. Overall we were happy with the service and facilities. However, the resort is heavily overpriced. First it is pretty noisy. Nowhere is it mentioned that the resort is close to the airport, sometimes planes took off directly above our heads, dropping some fuel smoke and smell on their way. The aircons were located next to the bedroom. Jetskis cruised very close to the beach, including some from the Meritus itself.
For the price we paid we would have expected to have Star Sports (it was Australian Open time!), HBO and Star Movies in our room.
In some areas (e.g. tennis courts) maintenance is not very good.
Unique Quality: nice broad and clean beach, good and friendly service

The place to RELAX!
Had 6 nights at Pelangi Beach Resort.
Staff very friendly.
Had to get our ceiling fan repaired which took 3 days and 2 reminders, received a complimentary, good qulity Asian travel magazine for our troubles.
Food and sevice very good, only breakfast buffet not that impressive. We ate breakfast at local restarants each day after that. Cheaper and more our style.
BBQ buffet and dinner in the sunset on the beach was a highlight to our stay.
Unique Quality: Relaxed setting
Walking distance to Restarants
Nice setting at the two pools
Great massage hut on the beach

Nice hotel in Pantai Cenang!
I stayed at the Pelangi Beach Resort for 5 nights and had a nice stay. Though it's rated 5 stars I think it doesn't meet them, it's a 4 star resort. I also found it lacked some character.
The resort has many facilities to keep people busy during their stay as Langkawi is a very laidback and beautiful island, but it has not much to do or see outside the resort.
We had a seaview room , right in front of the beach, which was large and confortable but a bit dark. The grounds are nice and well kept with two nice swimming pools. The beach wasn't stunning but it was ok and as most people preferred to lay in the pools, it was a good place to relax and bath as it was quiet desert , specially in the mornings.
The service was good ,people were always willing to help, though at the restaurants it was pretty bad at times as they lacked people working there.
Food was only so so. The best restaurant was the Thai one and we had a very disappointing and expensive BB buffet dinner on the beach. Though the breakfast was extensive it lacked a bit quality.
The night entertainment at the lounge bar had a band playing western hits. Typical dances and music would be much nicer to see and give a Malay feeling, like they do in Thailand.
Also had a massage at the beach massage hut which left my whole body aching for two days and I still don't know if it was supposed to, lol.
All in all it's a nice and quiet resort, though big, it is relaxing. got a great discounted rate by being a Meritus Cub member so it was a good value for money.

a good family resort on the beach
We stayed there for one night sort of on the way to The Datai. This is no Datai, but it is a very good resort for its price, well geared for children and families. There are many activities for kids and adults, more than enough pools, and a huge beach. Service was adequate.
We stayed in two rooms on the upper floor of building blocks containing four units. We found the furniture and decor quite plain and dark, however, we had an excellent view from our room and the balcony.
I would stay there again if on a budget, but if money is no object, then The Datai every time!

Pelangi Beach Resort not so good
We stayed at Pelangi Beach Resort for our Honeymoon and although we had a great time,we had some problems with the Hotel. Our friends had chipped in and had us upgraded to a Beachfront room but I would really not recommend spending the extra dollars.
We met a number of people during our 9 day stay and all of the accomodation was of the same quality whether you paid for a deluxe, superior or otherwise.
The rooms are all rather dark and desperately in need of refurbishment. There were holes in the couches in our room, the curtains were also shabby with holes and the bathroom had a musty mildewy smell. The extras such as soap and mini bar where also basic.Normally I wouldnt complain but I think the mistake is that this hotel is relatively expensive but it's standards are way below par.In Langkawi,Pelangi is advertised as a 5 star hotel and in some travel guides as a 4 star.our experience is that the hotel should really be graded as a 3 star.
I think the big clincher for me was that the sheets were grey, thin and threadbare....overwashed and used thousands of times. I have travelled many places before and this usually wouldnt bother me but in a 5 star...that is quite a splurge for us...I expect fresh clean sheets
Unique Quality: The pool was great and this is really a family hotel. Happy hour at the beachside bar for us was a bit of a trap as we met up with another honeymoon couple from Ireland and at $2.00 Australian Dollars for cocktails....often found that we were still at the bar way into the night.
The restaurants including the main restaurant, the Thai restaurant and the BBQ grill were amazing.Fresh, flavoursome food and for the first time in our lives we really got tired of eating prawns and crab.Delicious. The Pelangi restaurants are much dearer than the restaurants in town but still very cheap releative to Australia
The pool side bar/cafe serves very Western burgers and chips but as before,is really catering for the family groups
The house keeping service couldnt be faulted and to be surrounded by flowering Frangipani while looking out over the low tide sand banks....beauti

Pleasant island resort
We stayed at the Pelangi in February and enjoyed our stay very much. The whole complex is very well maintained and the rooms were pleasant . Certainly the standards for a real
5 star hotel are by european standards different but overall we were very satisfied.
Restaurants are okay but outside you find plenty of places to eat. Langkawi is quite a big island -so it´s worth hiring a car at least for some time of the stay. Prices are low -pay at the airport less 50% of the first offer (depending on season and availability ) Be aware that usually insurance is not included-check out. We hired the car without insurance: traffic is slow and if you are a safe driver this should be ok. Nevertheless: strange feeling at first.
Unique Quality: We had a lake room : Away from the street, comparatively near to the main building and
always nice to watch the life in the pond. Great lanai ,but use insect repellent at night.

Pelangi Beach Resort
Hi to everyone
I heard that Pelangi beach resort was hit by the tsunami really bad. Is it that bad? And I am planning to go there over June, will it be fully operational or else is it better to find an other hotel in Langkawi
Thanks
Re: Pelangi Beach Resort
No it was not hit really bad, some superficial damage at the beach and around the pool, that was all, as far as I know it is all now ok.
