Mixed Feelings... Good + Bad
I have stayed in this place 3 times - 1st time was in 2011 and the other 2 times is in Feb 2013.
The hotel has 2 different locations for its rooms - one facility is at the beach side, and the other one is across the street from the beach. There are few different room categories available and I had the opportunity to stay at 3 different types of rooms.
The rooms at the beach side facility are much better compared to the ones at street side, and the location is a boon to the rooms. I would give a double thumbs up for its location (it's in the middle of the beach stretch) and restaurant setup - they have tables and benches facing the beach at the restaurant and one can enjoy a very serene and relaxing breakfast by the beach, watching the sunrise (or a drink in the evening, watching the sunset). As for the rooms, the new superior beach room beside the restaurant or the one in the 3-storey building by the beach are equally OK - clean, functioning hot shower with good water pressure, no cockroaches. There are no elevators though, so one would need to carry heavy luggage to the 2nd floor if you are assigned a room there. No bellboys though :D
The facade of the facility at the street side looks OK. Nonetheless, avoid the room across the street at all cost if hot shower is important to you because THERE IS NO HOT SHOWER AVAILABLE in the rooms across the street. The setup of the rooms is more dormitory like and Langkawi's water supply is so damn cold in early morning and after sundown. I only manage to get a good shower in the afternoon when the weather is hot and the water is warm enough! I have friends staying at the street side and they have leaky ceilings in their room! No elevator as well at this facility and guest have to walk from the reception across the street to this facility - 3 to 5 mins walk, depending on one's walking speed.
Superior seaside rooms are a little bit hard to come by and they normally do not let guest do booking on this type of room as existing guest kept extending their stay! These rooms are never vacant. One would have to see whether they are lucky enough to snatch one of these few room when checking in.
All rooms comes with breakfast and the menu is almost the same everyday - one type of local fare (nasi lemak / fried kuey teow / fried beehoon), one type of soupy nobles (mee sup or kuey teow sup), pan cakes, bake beans in tomato sauce, banana, cut papayas and green agar-agar (always green and never any other colour, since 2011)
Front desk staffs were helpful – they deliver towels for guests requesting for fresh one even when the rain was pouring, and the girl had to run to the 3 storey building block from the reception with an umbrella! But not so for kitchen staff – they are a bit ambivalent.
Overall, this resort provides a enjoyable stay for guest who wants a nice by the beach holiday in Cenang beach. But please choose to avoid the standard room at the facility across the street if you can’t live without hot shower!!!

Sandy Beach has chalets by the beach and a couple hotels. We stayed in both. The chalet had air conditioning, 2 single beds, shower/bathroom, and a tv. The bathroom are disgusting. You walk down 2 steps in to this old nasty sweaty tile toilet room. The toilet has to be flushed by spraying water into it. The spray is the shower w/ no hot water. It's very old and rundown and GROSS. It's right by the beach but what place isn't in Langkawi. Got moved to the hotel room since the Earthquake and Tsunami's came. That room was much nice but super run down. It's just a POOR country. Bathroom was way better, flushing toilet anyway. No view in either place. It was 70RM a night during PEAK season. The huts on the beach were being rented out by the month by older European people. If you are a roughing it type person I would stay here but I wouldn't stay in the hut again. The bathroom is too much. Don't forget a couple pairs of shower shoes if you go.
Unique Quality: Staff is nice and they have a restaurant that is very popular right on the beach. We had some good Tom Yam soup once. Nice beach front, great location too.
Sandy Beach Resort
Looking at the picture, I guess that this is a lot of peoples' ideal of the perfect beach bungalow. It looks nice and rustic, close to the sea, and in a setting of palm tress. Well, not for me unfortunately. I am not bothered about being right on the beach. I read somewhere that for Germans this is the most important thing for them - an interesting piece of trivia. I had actually paid for a couple of nights at the Sandy Beach but then discovered it was swarming with mosquitoes (no exaggeration) so got my money back and left. These type of huts are getting old and the construction is such that the door does not fit properly, the insect nets are broken and there are holes everywhere. It is an open house for mosquitoes and a mosquito net at night is quite essential. Perhaps I'm being a bit paranoid but I read a lot. Mosquito bites at the best of times are uncomfortable and unsightly. If you are unlucky then there are a host of mosquito-borne diseases that are really nasty. Malaria is still a huge killer on the world today. Dengue Fever is nasty and can be life threatening if it results in Dengue Haemorhaging Fever (DHF). Dengue is carried by the Aedes mosquito, active by daytime, amd is a problem in SE Asia.
Besides the mosquito problems, there are other things I do not like about this kind of accommodation. I find the dark wood, lack of daylight and lack of room inside the bungalows very claustrophic. They are also not the cleanest of places. The bedding and tiny, threadbare towel you are normally well past their best. Toilets and washing facilities are, mmmm .... basic. This means just a cold shower and a non-flushing toilet - a plastic bowl is provided which has to be filled with water and slooshed down the toilet to remove waste.
I've stayed in this type of place before and will probably do so again but it isn't what I enjoy. Feeling so ill on this trip to Langkawi, I need a few home comforts. It's your choice, of course.

Sandy Beach resort (Langkawi)
Anybody have stayed at this resort on langkawi? Any comments on it. Where is it located? I searched thru the internet n found it was something like near Pantai cenang. Is it the one between AB Motel and semarak Beach? How is the service and prices?
Thanks a lot
RE: Sandy Beach resort (Langkawi)
I haven't stayed at sandy beach resort before but i've stayed on langkawi for about a year. I was on pantai cenang for the first half fo this year and i worked doing massage in the Sandy Beach massage hut. It's a great hotel, right on the beach, if you get one of the beachfront ones you will step off your little balcony straight onto the sand. You're right next door to a watersports hut too, where there are some really fun guys who hire out jetski's, parasailing, kayaking, wakeboarding etc. Lots of fun!
I dont know much about the actual rooms or the service but the people are really nice there. And you can eat, dring etc on tables and a bar that that they have right on the beach too.
I was just looking on the net for some photos of it because i wanted to recommend it to a friend but there dont seem to be many ay...
Hope that helps, if you've got some more questions i'll try to answer if i can.
