Backpackers Place
Sandy Beach has chalets by the beach and a couple hotels. We stayed in both. The chalet had air conditioning, 2 single beds, shower/bathroom, and a tv. The bathroom are disgusting. You walk down 2 steps in to this old nasty sweaty tile toilet room. The toilet has to be flushed by spraying water into it. The spray is the shower w/ no hot water. It's very old and rundown and GROSS. It's right by the beach but what place isn't in Langkawi. Got moved to the hotel room since the Earthquake and Tsunami's came. That room was much nice but super run down. It's just a POOR country. Bathroom was way better, flushing toilet anyway. No view in either place. It was 70RM a night during PEAK season. The huts on the beach were being rented out by the month by older European people. If you are a roughing it type person I would stay here but I wouldn't stay in the hut again. The bathroom is too much. Don't forget a couple pairs of shower shoes if you go.
Unique Quality: Staff is nice and they have a restaurant that is very popular right on the beach. We had some good Tom Yam soup once. Nice beach front, great location too.

Sandy Beach Resort
Looking at the picture, I guess that this is a lot of peoples' ideal of the perfect beach bungalow. It looks nice and rustic, close to the sea, and in a setting of palm tress. Well, not for me unfortunately. I am not bothered about being right on the beach. I read somewhere that for Germans this is the most important thing for them - an interesting piece of trivia. I had actually paid for a couple of nights at the Sandy Beach but then discovered it was swarming with mosquitoes (no exaggeration) so got my money back and left. These type of huts are getting old and the construction is such that the door does not fit properly, the insect nets are broken and there are holes everywhere. It is an open house for mosquitoes and a mosquito net at night is quite essential. Perhaps I'm being a bit paranoid but I read a lot. Mosquito bites at the best of times are uncomfortable and unsightly. If you are unlucky then there are a host of mosquito-borne diseases that are really nasty. Malaria is still a huge killer on the world today. Dengue Fever is nasty and can be life threatening if it results in Dengue Haemorhaging Fever (DHF). Dengue is carried by the Aedes mosquito, active by daytime, amd is a problem in SE Asia.
Besides the mosquito problems, there are other things I do not like about this kind of accommodation. I find the dark wood, lack of daylight and lack of room inside the bungalows very claustrophic. They are also not the cleanest of places. The bedding and tiny, threadbare towel you are normally well past their best. Toilets and washing facilities are, mmmm .... basic. This means just a cold shower and a non-flushing toilet - a plastic bowl is provided which has to be filled with water and slooshed down the toilet to remove waste.
I've stayed in this type of place before and will probably do so again but it isn't what I enjoy. Feeling so ill on this trip to Langkawi, I need a few home comforts. It's your choice, of course.

Sandy Beach resort (Langkawi)
Hi,
Anybody have stayed at this resort on langkawi? Any comments on it. Where is it located? I searched thru the internet n found it was something like near Pantai cenang. Is it the one between AB Motel and semarak Beach? How is the service and prices?
Thanks a lot
RE: Sandy Beach resort (Langkawi)
Hi,
I haven't stayed at sandy beach resort before but i've stayed on langkawi for about a year. I was on pantai cenang for the first half fo this year and i worked doing massage in the Sandy Beach massage hut. It's a great hotel, right on the beach, if you get one of the beachfront ones you will step off your little balcony straight onto the sand. You're right next door to a watersports hut too, where there are some really fun guys who hire out jetski's, parasailing, kayaking, wakeboarding etc. Lots of fun!
I dont know much about the actual rooms or the service but the people are really nice there. And you can eat, dring etc on tables and a bar that that they have right on the beach too.
I was just looking on the net for some photos of it because i wanted to recommend it to a friend but there dont seem to be many ay...
Hope that helps, if you've got some more questions i'll try to answer if i can.
Brianna.
