A Jewel In The Rainforest

Highly recommended for a great stay!!

I was truly happy and impressed with the service of all the staff, from the waiters at the Beach Bar, the restaurants, the reception, to the expert conservationist Dev who took us on nature walks, and not forgetting the gentle but very capable hands of the treatment therapists at the spa... Malaysia boleh!!

The resort was so great that we stayed there most of the time and didn't really venture out to see the rest of Langkawi much.

Unique Quality: The resort is set in the middle of a 50 million year old rainforest, and they have done a truly great job of conserving and preserving it. So you get lots of wildlife which you would encounter on a daily basis which is rather unique! Do go on the free nature walks available as you get a most entertaining, knowledgeable conservationist to guide you.

The Andaman Langkawi

The mystical island of Langkawi is home to The Andaman at Datai Bay. Situated between the majestic Mat Cincang Range and the deep blue Andaman Sea, the RESORT has been built in the middle of a virgin tropical rainforest.

Centuries old trees, many with huge buttress roots and jungle creepers envelope the resort creating a haven far from the bustle of city life.

The Andaman has 188 deluxe rooms and suites. Each is furnished with king or twin beds, minibar, coffee and tea making facilities, writing desk and chair, individually controlled air-conditioning, hairdryer, ceiling fan, in-room safety box and IDD telephone lines. Lanai rooms feature sunning decks with umbrella and are on the first floor.

The Executive Suites, Malaysian Suite and Presidential Suite features king-size beds while the Japanese suite has twin beds. Each suite has one bedroom, a separate living area, spacious balcony and private bar. The Japanese and Malaysia suites are also decorated in authentic style.

Pure bliss...

The Andaman, like many hotels in Langkawi, is a luxurious resort. Expensive by Malaysian standards, it caters mainly to a European and Japanese clientele. It is located by Datai Bay, and shares a private beach with its sister property, The Datai. Facilities include a swimming pool, 5 restaurants/bar (more if you include those in The Datai, to which guests have access), a business centre and a spa. The hotel organises activities for guests, such as jungle walks, though many seemed perfectly happy lying on the beach... We had a standard room, which was perfectly adequate, with views overlooking the jungle - we were told to lock our windows when out, since monkeys are known to sneak into the rooms and wreck havoc!

Langkawi's best kept secret

We keep going back!! and each time our stay gets longer! We appreciate the tranquillity and peacefulness of the surroundings ( unlike pantai cenang!) , the great staff, top-class service, beautiful rooms, spectacular view of the great andaman sea, baby crabs running all over the beach and the hornbills that pearch by the trees in the evening. Truly Langkawi's best kept secret, and I hope it stays this way!

a bit away from everything

I did not stay here. I came here for lunch. Taxi costs are exorbitant to get out of this resort with 60RM fare to airport. Compared to 70RM for a 3 hour tour of the island from anywhere in the island this is a rip off, but if you go to the Andaman you have the money so maybe it is not that expensive. Anyway lunch here was good, I had a salad and a natural fruit juice.

Unique Quality: There is a Spa onsite, bar with band playing most nights, pool and private beach so if all you want is relax this is the place for you.

Paradise

One of the premier hotels in Langkawi, the Andaman can only be described in one word: luxurious.
I spent 2 nights there. During which my stay was very pleasant.
The Andaman's architecture is such that they build around trees, instead of chopping off the whole lot. Therefore it really gives a feeling of being in the forest. Rooms are quite spacious and the staff is friendly.
Its located along the beautiful Datai beach as well. Though the water isnt as clear as i hoped (as in pulau redang)
Of course, with the price that you pay, what else should it be but first class?

Unique Quality: great pool. has a spa nearby. thought the massages cost a bomb. starting at rm80.

my only grudge is that it is located so far away from town.

These two resorts offer an idyllic retreat to nature. Nestled amidst beautiful surroundings of century old rain forest and pristine yet private beach.

Lovely hotel on Datai Bay

Located on Datai Bay in the northwest corner of Langkawi is the Andaman Hotel. It is a lovely resort built into the natural tropical rainforest where you can be amongst monkeys, squirrels, and other flora and fauna. A winding private road leads to the hotel as tour buses are too large to pass through.

Unique Quality: The hotel has a private beach where one can arrange a private romantic dinner on the beach with fire torches. During the day, one can relax by the pool or on the beach sipping a cool drink. There are sightseeing trips for tourists to explore other parts of Langkawi. However, most guests will luxuriate in the hotel's facilities as the hotel is tucked away in a remote corner of Langkawi some 40 minutes by car from the main town of Kuah.

More about The Andaman

Relax with the kids (yes, it's possible at The Andaman)

by TripAdvisor Member Mantagirl

We had a most enjoyable stay at this hotel where we stayed for two weeks. Upon arrival we were greeted by the manager and shown to our Seaview room shortly after. The room was lovely and the view breathtaking as there was a magnificent sunset or thunderstorm to watch most evenings.
We had with us our 2-year old and 6-month old sons. The couch turns into a spare bed and a cot was provided for the baby. The kids loved the place as it has a brilliant playroom for children full of IKEA stuff, videogames and movies which is run by an enthusiastic member of staff. The pool is superb, has a terraced layout (great for learning to swim) with a slide. There are some resident monitor lizards who provide some entertainment when they take the plunge. Most areas are covered by rainforest so the sun doesn't beam down too hot. If you do get hot and bothered, iced towels are brought around occasionally to cool you down. Beware of the monkeys. They appear late afternoon and try to raid your belongings.
Food is exquisite. We tried out all the restaurants - The Gulai House was our favourite but I fondly remember early breakfasts on my own watching the hornbills while the boys were still sleeping. Room service was also A+ with an extensive menu including kids dinners. Did I mention there was babysitting on tap? You could say this hotel is out in the stix. There is nothing to do but relax and enjoy time with the kids. Walk on the beach or if you want to visit the spa, a golf buggy will drive you there. All the staff we encountered were very professional and friendly. Sometimes in the restaurants they would take the kids off our hands so we could enjoy a dessert. Once we were caught out by heavy rain by the pool and staff appeared with umbrellas to carry the kids in. Finally, when you get back to your room after a hard days relaxing, you've had a visit from the turn-down fairy...

Fantastic service and food to die for

by TripAdvisor Member christiangentle

This is the second time my girlfriend and I have stayed at the Andaman. The first time was 10 years ago. The management group have clearly kept the grounds and rooms exceptionally well maintained without loosing the unique 'Malay' character that this hotel is famous for. The Malaysian restaurant offers in our view the best 'Malay' food to be found anywhere in the world and again in a unique setting that only the Andaman can offer. In between mesmorizing 5 star service and extraordinary cuisine experiences, the pool and facilties, nearby golf course and nature walks complete an altogether wonderful getaway experience. If you want to experience a world class hotel that is uniquely Malay, you must try the Andaman.

I am considering spending 7 nites at Andaman, Langkawi.

Any feedback on this resort?
How far is this from Kuah?

Thanks.

Re: Andaman

andaman is cool but 7 nights i think its too long you might get bored. unless you really slow & easy lazzing else i think 3-4 days in langkawi is good enough.

Andaman is really quite far from Kuah. It's right at the opposite end of the island on the northwest, I think about 25km. But it's like your own little world and quite a fantastic hotel. You should like nature and quite surroundings if you want to stay 7 nights.
