    A nice place to stay

I had a wonderful time here, adore every minute. Love the atmosphere, long beach, beach scenery, nice 2 swimming pool and the food, service and atmosphere of the restaurant are just perfect. I will definately come back here again.

  • What a find!

We stayed here at the most crowded time, Xmas and New year 2007/8. The rooms were excellent, clean, spacious, with aircon and BBC World News! The resort prides itself on being an eco-resort, and all the rooms have solar panels for electricity, recycled rainwater for flushing the toilet, and all the waste food from the restaurant is composted, etc. All around the resort are Frangipani trees, exotic plants & bushes, and there's a bird watching sanctuary on the premises too! The resort has its own beach front, with white, talcum powder sand. The sea is clean, and there are watersport activities available at the resort, such as jetskis, parasailing, etc. There are two nice swimming pools, and 2 luxurious open air hot water jacuzzis, as well as a beachfront bar and restaurant. The restaurant was a bit pricy compared to those in Pentai Cenang, but excellent quality. The staff are very friendly, helpful and go out of their way to make the stay as nice as possible. The rooms are set back from the beach/pool/bar area, so there's no problem with noise keeping you awake, or waking you up early. Its location is superb - only 15 mins walk from the centre of Pentai Cenang (Underwater World), with many restaurants/bars to choose from. The only 3 nightlife spots in Langkawi (Sunba, Reggae Bar and the disco in the basement of Asiania Hotel) are only a few mins walk away. This was a wonderful place to stay, with the opportunities to take it easy, relax, and have some nightlife, all at a very reasonable cost.

Unique Quality: Excellent location, near bars, restaurants & nightclubs.
    Great pools, & jaccuzzis
    Watersports available at the resort
    Friendly staff
Tour desk, allows you to book tours around the island, watersports, trips to Thailand, etc.

Directions: Pantai Tengah, about 100m from the junction with Pentai Cenang

you'll miss it even before you leave it

This is a really gorgeous place to stay in. from the moment you enter, you feel like u've truely started your holiday! the place is beautifully decorated, the staff are friendly, food is great, what can i say!

while its a bit far from the ferry terminal and town, it more than makes up for it with its facilities and scenary!

we stayed at the suite, cos we had a free upgrade cos they made us wait so long for our room but i wasn't complaining hahhaha

our room was HUGe, clean and opened out to the sea. however, at night, the music from coco jam was quite loud and rather annoying too..but oh well, doesn't matter, cos i was tired out anyway! =0p

they serve dinner buffets at night, with tons of seafood tat they grill for you, prawns, squid, chicken, fish, crayfish, satay, you name it they have it! but if u wan to indulge and go for the lobster buffet, then i think you have to top up another RM20 or so..not too sure abt tat though!

Unique Quality: while u sunbathe or lounge by the deck chairs, 2 ladies come by and offer you cold watermelons and cold towels. wat a nice touch!

they are currently undergoing upgrading but they are doing it in stages, so don't worry about being affected by it!

Directions: most of the cabbies still know it as langkawi village resort and not frangipani!

Langkawi Village Resort

by wufei

Langkawi Village Resort is situated on a 10 acre verdant landscaped grove of coconut palms at Pantai Tengah, on the South West of Langkawi Island. With a golden beach-front of soft sand stretching over 400 meters and lapped by cool inviting waters, it offers a panoramic vista of the nearby islands and of the setting sun; a sea-front location which is unmatched on the entire Island.

Known only to the discerning few until now, it is a hideaway which offers a peaceful, informal and thoroughly relaxing atmosphere for the weary traveller. The resort is a mere 15 minutes drive from Langkawi International Airport, 25 minutes from Kuah Town and 5-10 minutes from local restaurants, convenience stores and handicraft centers.

Frangipani Delight!

by TripAdvisor Member rozl

Just returned from 6 nights at the Frangipani and we loved it loved it loved it!!! We had a beach front room which was great ( did hear that the rooms further back were nowhere near as nice so worth paying the slightly higher tariff for beachfront ). We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Everthing was spotlessly clean. lovely gardens and pool (small), plenty of shade and sunlounges, good reasonably priced food & drinks. Lots of restaurants within 5 min walk - especially good were Oasis ( you can walk up the beach to the right to get here ), and the Sun Cafe ( go out to the road & turn left ony about 100mtr walk ) and italian & indian restaurants just past sun cafe ( cant remember the names ) served divine food . Also plenty of shops ( to the left outside the hotel ) and day spas within 10 min walk.

Langkawi is very quiet and relaxing and the Frangipani fits in well - if you want a beautiful place to chill out and relax this is for you! We didnt want to leave and will be back as soon as possible!

Excellent Resort

by TripAdvisor Member DEfromBC

We arrived at the Frangipani on Friday the 16th of March at around 13:30 after a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport and 4 fairly hectic days in Kuala Lumpur. First impressions of the Pantai Cenang area was not what I expected but not unpleasant. I had been expecting a bit more of an “up market” feel and a slightly more traditional set up but it was full of fast food outlets and cheap T Shirt shops. We were greeted at the hotel with cool wipes and the news that the room was not ready so we were escorted to the bar to wait (not a bad place to have to wait).

We were taken to the room at around 14:45 and were very happy with the accommodation. We had a beachfront Deluxe (number 373) villa. Only slight problem was, it was the furthest room from pool/bar/reception area. It had a huge bed, very efficient air con, an outside shower within an enclosed garden and a great view out across the beach and sea.

The bar and restaurant were on the beach front and very reasonably priced (Beer 10 MR - We were getting 6.8 MR to the £ - huge club sandwich 16 MR - evening buffet BBQ 50 MR) Note that outside hotel drink and food was cheaper still ! Most bars were 5 MR for Tiger beer an 10 MR for spirits/wine/cocktails.

The hotel itself was fairly quiet. There were loads of sun loungers both around the pool and under palm trees on the beach front. The beach was huge but had quite a lot of debris although the hotel staff cleared it away directly in front of hotel. The sea was a bit murky and had jellyfish so I gave that a miss! The pool was excellent and had 2 Jacuzzis adjoining. Beach towels and sun lounger mattresses were available, free and in abundance. The pool was set in a very colourful garden area which was looked after particlarly well.

The Frangipani was an excellent choice. The staff were incredibly genuine and friendly. Breakfasts were served at the beachfront restaurant so that it was possible to sit outside and enjoy the food presented in a buffet format. Apart from having no real bacon and sausages (both were the chicken variety) it was as good a breakfast as I have had anywhere in the world.

As regarding things we saw:

The Oriental Village was OK but all very modern and not at all traditional. It does contain cable car so is probably worth a visit. The walk to the waterfall from the village was good with lots of monkeys in their natural environment around. Kuah Town was OK but nothing special. Both are about a 25 minute taxi ride costing 20 MR - great value for money so we never bothered with a hire car.

Restaurant recommendations would be.

1. Beach Garden resort - Taxi ride (5 MR) at the top end of the next beach - Pantai Cenang. Tables laid out on sand excellent value for money and good quality.

2. Lighthouse. Out of hotel onto beach, turn right and walk 4 or 5 minutes. The tables are again on the sand, excellent setting and quality. Good choice of food (not all Malay/Thai like some places - word of warning, food is MUCH hotter over there. Thai Green Curry for example which is fruity and mild here is very spicy over there)

3. SunSutra. Go out of hotel onto road and almost opposite, slightly to the right. 2 great bars and a "nouveau" restaurant (their description not mine)

4. For a change, out of hotel onto road turn left and about 200 yards to the Jungle Bar. This is more of a bar serving food than a restaurant but great for a snack type meal. First night we were not very hungry having had a late lunch and a few beers. We went to the Jungle Bar for a light meal. Sweet and Sour chicken, Chicken in Ginger and Black Bean, 2 x Prawn fried Rice and 5 beers was 55 MR. There was also a live band on !!

Our only slight issues were:

1. Beach and sea were both a bit murky
2. Sometimes an unpleasant whiff from the open drains along the road side (not an issue on the beach)
3. The road behind the Pantai Cenang (apparently the main Bar area) is full of tacky shops selling cheap junk - although to be honest, there are some bargains to be found along there.
4. Almost a 27 hour return journey door to door. Hopefully there will be a direct flight starting again soon and better still from somewhere in the North of England. Malaysian Airlines were very good however and the 34 inch seat pitch was a real bonus.

All in all, a brilliant holiday. If anyone would like more info on the area, please contact me.

Upgraded but expensive

by TripAdvisor Member antonyb

Second stay in 14 months & has changed name ,management & increased rates dramatically.
Stayed in beach front "deluxe" room which has been repainted ,refurbished & a delightful open air shower added. Also safe
Walked out onto shaded lawns at beach edge, beach excellent . Breakfast good at beachside restaurant & small pleasant pool. Staff friendly & helpful.Taxi 6US$ to Kuah Town
Again big positive is 4 restaurants 300 yds outside resort (Suntura,Sun Village,Matahari,Sun Cafe) all beautiful, excellent ,food not expensive.
Island warrants a couple of days car hire to explore.
Very satisfactory if in beach front accomodation but expensive as resort is upgraded but not modernized. Will return to island & Frangapani

Expensive and unfinished

by TripAdvisor Member scottypenang

Great beach but poor rooms for the money! I have stayed with many expats at the Frangipani many times as it used to be a firm favourite. The great beach side location, proximity to restaurants and the small pool and friendly bar are all perfect for anyone wanting to get away from it all and completely relax. The problem is that the resort changed name more than a year ago (and presumably owner) and since then the prices have nearly doubled for neglible benefits. Yes, there is now a new decorative pond to greet you as you arrive, and there is a bewildering fishing boat that has been beached near the pool bar for no obvious purpose, but other than this I see no reason where the money is warranted. In fact, as much of the resort is being renovated, much of the land behind the pool area looks like a buidling site and rather scruffy. The rooms are also basic compared to other resorts of the same price. The overall impression I have is that a once great small resort has needlessly tried to upgrade and in doing so is expecting its customers to pay more money even though it is incomplete. Nonetheless, the staff and pool area remains beautiful and one of the best I have have enjoyed since living in Malaysia.

by TripAdvisor Member Sam_and_Liz

Generally quite disappointed with the stay due to the poor quality of the room (garden room). The bathroom was in dire need of renovation, towels were threadbare and the 2 single beds stuck togther was not very romantic. Had it been cheap we would not have minded so much but it wasn't. On the plus side the staff were nice and helpful and the restaurant was okay. The beach was nice but personally we preferred Pantai Cenang. We won't be staying here again but we will certainly return to Langkawi.

A Really Memorable Experience

by TripAdvisor Member Naaz-7

Frangipani Resort at Langkawi is a little spot of paradise on the Island. The resort effortlessly combines service efficiency with its ambience of restful leisure on the beach front. The charming cottages are extremely comfortable, superb AC and a charming ‘outdoor’ shower. But what stands out is the very friendly and helpful staff, right from the reception to bar, restaurant and room service.
The beach, pool & bar are simply outstanding.
The whole experience was one of the most memorable we’ve ever had – and we’ve been places! Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a wonderful holiday

Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa (formerly Langkawi Village)

by SmilingTraveller

My hubbie & I will be travelling to Langkawi in April'07 and would like to know if anyone has stayed at the Frangipani since the renovations were carried out (were advertised to be completed in November). Please advise any info you have on this hotel or the surrounding area.

We were looking forward to staying at the Casa Del Mar, but we understand it will be closed at end April for renovations.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Dear Smiling Traveler,
I didn't stay at the Frangipani, but looked at their resort in November of 2006, and I really can't remember why we didn't stay there. I am going to research your question and try to find a better answer. Meanwhile is there a specific reason that you chose the Frangipani? We have stayed at other places along that same beach and have been very happy. I will be glad to tell you about some others if you wish to know about them. Please reply.....

Sincerely, Gary

Thanks Gary. I guess the reason we decided to stay at the Frangipani was that we were having a hard time finding accommodation as a lot of the resorts were already booked out. I found their website and it sounded like it had everything we were looking for, so then I read some reviews on VT and also on some other sites and it sounded quite good. It would be nice to hear some more recent opinions though, ie. since the renovations have taken place.
