More about The Lanai Langkawi Beach Resort

Swimming at Pantai Lanai / Lanai Beach

by Azri_Azmi

Another beach that we can go a swim, sun bathing and doing water sports activities. This beach is not as busy as its neighbour the Tengah & Cenang beach. Good spot for sunbathing.

Swimming at Pantai Tengah / Tengah Beach

by Azri_Azmi

Tengah beach is one of many beaches that we can take a swim or even sunbathing. Situated in between the Lanai beach and Cenang beach. Some water sport operators also are here offering services such as island hopping, mangrove tour, parasailing, banana boat ride, waterski etc.

Fishing at Pulau Tekor / Tekor Island

by Azri_Azmi

"Tekor Island? In Langkawi?"

One of Langkawi many islands is Tekor Island or local called it 'Pulau Tekoq'. Situated to the opposite of Lanai beach and it is not far either. A speedboat ride will take us just less than 10 minutes to reach the island and its clearly can be seen from Lanai, Tengah and Cenang beach.

This is a new fishing spot for myself as its been discovered by my local brother in Langkawi, Jat. To reach the island, we hired a speedboat to drop us at the island with a charge of RM5.00 per person. This speedboat belongs to Jat's friend and he is not doing it openly to public as the speedboat is also being used as a sport activities boat for his business.

Once reaches the Tekor island's beach, we need to make a 15 to 20 minutes walks to the fishing spot. The route is kinda dangerous and adventurous as we may have to pass slippery rocky coral & stone, rock climbing and even climbing a 90 degree rock with a rope.

The fishing spot? The best so far compared to other 'fishing from land' fishing spot in Langkawi. The frequency of bites and amount of catch is above average. Most of the fish caught are average size grouper.

Langkawi Overnight...

"Return To The Island"

Sheraton Perdana Resort

I was given this free one-night accommodation at the Sheraton Perdana Resort which was to expire end-June 2004... So I took the opportunity to visit Pulau Langkawi... and of course for golf...

I have not been to Langkawi for a long long time... I can't remember when my last trip was...hehehe... Driving around the island, I can't help but noticing that there are some development (though not much)... The town and tourist areas have deteriorated somewhat... and there are not so many tourists this time around...

"KLIA to Langkawi Airport..."

As I decided to go on this trip only a week before departure date, I couldn't get a ticket on the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight to the island, i have to opt for the "budget" airline AirAsia...

The internet booking on AirAsia is a breeze but it was not "budget" at all... The fare was slighty more expensive than the MAS Superflyer fare... Well, you only get "budget" fare when you book 3 months in advance, I was told... And all you golfer out there, AirAsia charges an additional MR25 for carrying your golf bag (MAS carries it for free)...

Well, then came the flight... I was not surprise of the mad rush to get a seat during boarding time (isn't this typical Malaysia culture)... As I always sit on an aisle seat anyway, there is no urgency for me to join in the scramble for a window seat (I guess)... The flight was smooth and uneventful... We finally landed at the Langkawi International Airport...

"Golfing and Golf Courses..."

I took a rental car at the airport at RM70 per day... In the old days, it only went for less than RM50 per day... So inflation had caught up here as well...

After checking in at the hotel, had a game at the Langkawi Golf Club... As I play "reciprocal" from my home club, I just pay for the buggy... It was a good game on a nice course on a pleasant day... what else can a golfer ask for...

The next day, went out to check the other golf courses on the island... Besides the Langkawi Golf Club, there are 2 more golf courses in Langkawi - The exclusive and expensive Datai Golf Club and the Gunung Raya Golf Club... Didn't have an opportunity to play there as I was only on a 2days/1night trip...

"Round The Island..."

The next morning, we have barely 8 hours to visit the various tourists' places... around the island...

Passing the quiet Kuah town, we head for the Tanjung Rhu beach... On the way, we drop in at the Gunung Raya Golf Course... and the hot spring centre called Air Hangat Village... The Tanjung Rhu beach is quiet with few people around... This place is the springborad to Gua Cerita (Cave of Legends) steeped in fabled tales of mystery and romance...

Continue our journey, we passed by the Black Sand Beach where its sand is black in colour... We swing west to the road to Datai Bay, passing the Crocodile Farm...

On the way to The Datai and The Andaman, we passed the man-made Temurun Waterfall...We stopped at the The Datai Golf Club and The Datai to check them out...

"Pantai Cenang and Tengah"

The beaches here are both idyllic...5-star hotels and backpackers accommodation exists side-by-side here... Hotels located here include Pelangi Beach Resort, Holiday Villa, Lanai Resort Hotel and Awana Resort... This is also where the Star Cruise Terminal is for those coming in by criuse...

"Leaving Langkawi... by Ferry"

From Pantai Tengah, we travel back to Kuah town and thru to the Jetty Point... Returning our rental car at the jetty, we headed for the ferry... The ferry terminal is terribly un-inviting and we have some time finding the departure gate for our ferry... We took the 3:30pm ferry to Penang, with a brief stop at Pulau Payar Marine Park... As usual, the ferry was delayed on its way to Penang and we arrive about an hour late at about 6:00pm... just in time for a wash-up and then to the VT meeting in Penang...

Due the tsunami incident, i was actually thinking abt changing my stay from the Lanai Langkawi to those hotels in town- eg: Bayview Hotel, since the Lanai was kinda near to beach... :[

The Lanai?

by DebBowers

I've just booked to stay at the Lanai (Feb 06 for 2 wks) at Pantai Tengah and wondered if anyone has stayed there and what its like. I chose this hotel as it looked as if it was on a very nice beach but having just read some reviews of Langkawi in general am now wondering if my choice was so good. Can anyone give me any info such as the weather for Feb and reccomend things to see and do. Many thanks.

RE: The Lanai?

by bkoon

I stayed at the Lanai before. It was alright. The beach was ok too.

Depending on what you are looking for, there are many other islands in malaysia that will sweep you off your feet. If you are looking for nice beaches and clear blue water, I won't say langkawi although I like langkawi for the availability in other aspect of my needs like restaurants, night markets, shops etc. But if it's just nice beach and beautiful water i would say Redang, perhentian, pangkor laut( expensive) or Tioman is good too.
Hope I helped.

The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa or Lanai Beach Resort Pantai Tengah, Langkawi

by unique5k

any one has experience of staying at The Frangipani Langkawi Resort or Lanai Beach Resort Pantai Tengah, Langkawi and which one is better

Re: The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa or Lanai Beach Resort Pantai Tengah, Langkawi

by Malakawon

My husband and I went to Langkawi for honeymoon. We stayed at Lanai.
Its almost like in the end of Pantai Tengah. The staff are very nice
but the rooms are so so..We kept on walking far and wide just to eat
at restaurants within the area or just hang out in establishments. O
nly advantage of Lanai is that it has a pool.

Frangipani is has a better location. I suggest you go for this.

Beach in Langkawi has brown waters so might as well pick an area where
it is accessible to almost every thing because you cant swim on the beach.

by arissyam

hi there,

I cant give any comments on both resorts that u mention as i always stay in budget hotel in Cenang Beach, Langkawi. But i would like to suggest u to stay in one of the hotels that located at pantai cenang or cenang beach as the water there more calm and best for swimming. Look for Casa del Mar or the award-winning Meritus Pelangi. and there are nite market evernight just outside the hotel compound. Good for evening stroll after dinner.

Thanks for your reply, now i am making reservation but rate difference between both hotels is almost double so is it worth paying that much for frangipani langkawi

Travel Tips for Pulau Langkawi

Malay Traditional Medicine & Gamat (Sea Cucumber)

by Azri_Azmi about Kedai Gamat Asli - Hj Shaari

The shop is situated in the heart of Kuah Town. This is my favourite 'Gamat' / Sea Cucumber oil from other shops in Langkawi. Why the oil here is so special? Its because the mixture of the oil with many local plant roots & herbs making it more stronger and effective.

The product being sold here is not only 'Gamat' but there are varieties of traditional medicine personally made by the owner being offered here.

They are also runs a budget motel behind the shop with aircondition & tv room.

All the product is being made at their manufacturing site in KEDA Village, Langkawi. 1) Gamat oil
2) King of Wood
3) Traditional Viagra (Tongkat Ali)
