Snorkelling with Sharks in Pulau Payar
by kishore7
Definately the highlight of my trip!....it was amazing to have the opportunity to swim with sharks and baracuda's. The sharks are about 2m long but they dont attack, the baracuda's though will attack if provoked. The boat ride to Pulau Payar takes about 1 hour and this is pretty dull. The guides at the snorkelling site are really good and they tend to sometimes almost drag you into the deeper end to ensure you get to see the wide variety of fishes and you never miss anything. So this is definately not for the ones who would panic looking into the deep depth of the ocean. Life vests provided are the better type so there is never any worry. Lunch is a bit crap so dont expect too much. After negotiations and because it was off-peak season, i managed to pay RM90 per person for the whole package. The package includes them picking you up from your hotel, the boat ride, the guide, equipment, lunch, boat ride back and be dropped off at your hotel. Sharks ! and old mean looking Baracuda with a missing front tooth
The Princess Mahsuri Legend
by yipsufen
Mahsuri was a beautiful Malay Princess unjustly put to death for committing adultery. Her innocence was proven when after being stabbed to death with her own dagger, white blood oozed from her body. It is believed that the shores of Langkawi are pure white because of her innocence.
Diving and Snorkeling
by morninglory
It may not be the perfect weather or the best corals or fishes you can see. But if you already on the island, why not take a ride and plunge yourself in the warm Langkawi water. The popular place for divers alike is Pulau Payar about 45 minutes boat ride from Kuah Jetty.
You can book your trip at the office of the Langkawi Coral at the Kuah Ferry Terminal, which cost around RM220 per day. For this price, the company will pick guests up from their respective hotels, provide lunch and the use of their reef-viewing platform. All their snorkelling equipment is also possible. Bring your own scuba gear...please..There's a rental gear if you want. But speak from experience, they are not well maintained. It's your life anyway..
You might not get fins your size (it's waaay too small for asian feet, i'm asian, but i have big feet..hehe) Don't let these small things get in your way.
Book Village
by Imbi
Book Village or Kampung Buku Malaysia in Langkawi is the first and only book village in South-east Asia. It is part of the International Book Villages and Book Towns Movement. The various houses in the village are stacked with a great variety of new books. Unfortunately when I got there it was closed for lunch break.
Buying alcoholic beverages
by nujnay about Any duty-free shop
Langkawi Island is well-known for its duty-free shopping. Among all things, alcoholic beverages are popular on the island. But, I personally think that beers and hard liquors , that's available on the island, are sort of watered down. They tastes funny. So, just one advice for everyone, dont be greedy and buy unselectively. Taste first and then decide. You dont wanna pay for nothing.
