Sutera Inn Kota Baharu: One of Kota Baharu's worst hotels

This hotel is charges above average room rates for their standards. The rooms have mushy and old furnishing. The worst thing is to get a hotel that has only single beds for the Superior standards. If you want double beds, you have to pay up to RM250 for the Executive rooms. And if you are unwell, they don't provide you with any additional bedsheet or blankets. They will tell you they have no extra blankets or bedsheets OR they will tell you the Housekeeping dept is closed. If the Housekeeping dept is close, why run a hotel?

The only good thing about this hotel is the Coffee House. They serve quite average breakfast and staff are quite efficient. They clear your soiled dishes very quickly.

Other than that, there's nothing really good to say about this hotel. Overall rating for this hotel, it sucks and make you feel like you 'owe' them something.

Renaissance Kota Bharu: Renaissance

The Renaissance is the top hotel in Kota Bharu, and is fully up to Western standards for a business/quality hotel. Large, comfortable rooms, a good restaurant, and friendly, attentive service. The outdoor pool was a very welcome relief from the summer heat.

Riverview Hotel: a little bit of luxury

We only stayed here because we couldn't get rooms anywhere else in KB as it was a bit beyond our planned budget but it was a fantastic kingsize room with luxurious bathroom and great facilities. At around RM225 I would consider it good value.
The breakfast was a little disappointing though, suffering as many buffets do, from food sitting around and drying out a little.

The river view is not much to write home about.

Pasir Belanda: Sampling the Malay Village Life

Perhaps the other sweet surprise we stumbled upon is this nice village lodging in the mid of a Malay Village. We arrived rather late that night, and was getting a little anxious when we drove through the dark small bumpy roads into the deep village setting. Surprisingly when we were greeted by few sturdy looking wooden house with warm garden lights in the background.

The place is run by a Dutch couples - Harry Mulder mostly run the show. They bought over the place some years ago and built a paradise out of it, inviting people like me that've never stayed in Malay Kampung (Village) to have glimpse of Kampung life there.

The room is very clean and well maintained. The air-cond is very cold too in the mid of night. There's good basic bread an egg breakfast served in the morning, right next to a picturesque river.

We get a lot of extras bundled with our stay here. Apart from curious kids wandering around, and endless motorcyclist riding without helmets, there were goats, chicken, cows, ducks fighting for their right of way in the narrow roads here too. If you look keen enough, there is this house nearby that let their horses roam free around in the middle of the night!

Mostly it is very quiet here, and breeze around seemed cooler than in city. There is a small scale duck farm just right across the road, and you get a lot of quacks all throughout the day. Quite often the smells get across too, resulting a need to stop breathing on a off.

But you know... that is what village life all about right, getting right down to the basic.

Harry is a very helpful and friendly person. We managed to get this map to ride around the kampung area, checking out a WW2 bunk hidden deep in there, and then right across a lagoon filled with colorful fishing boats. You should ask that from him too if you are ever visiting him.

Lee Guesthouse: Superb Guesthouse in Kota Bharu Town Malaysia

Just a brief recommendation for anyone looking for a place to stay in Kota Bharu - Lee Guesthouse. Telephone no:017-9806638. Or try: 609-7479668 ,609-7479663. Email address: LeeGuesthouse@GMAIL.COM
My family of 5 stayed there both coming and going through Kota Bharu on our way to Perhentian Island. Mr. Lee went far, far out of his way to accommodate our needs, at all hours, including finding dinner for us, taking us out in a storm to get some things for the kids, walking us thru the airport ensuring that we found our way, handling any other questions or concerns. We are very impressed of the personalised serviced provided by Mr.Lee the owner of the ethe Guesthouse., I personally felt obliged to provide these comments on a couple of travel websites.
The guest house is large and spacious, with 5 bedrooms, livingrom and a kitchen as well. It's not fancy (you can see photos at http://www.worldisround.com/articles/188057/index.html) but it is basic and comfortable, secure and clean. We have three kids under 10, so those are our priorties anyway. There is a TV and DVD player to pass some down time, and the house is in a nice neighborhood with a small park just down the road.
Price for the whole house was RM230 per night, We made the reservation of the guesthouse over the internet. If we find ourselves in this city again, we'll be staying at the same place.
(By the way, I guess I should mention that we're not related to Lee.) If you have a particular question, you can email us at ghl898820202@yahoo.com. Hope this aids your decision making...

Mr.Lee also provide a pickup/dropoff at the airport / train /bus station to /from the guesthouse .In addition he also provvide the transport services to / from guesthouse to the Kuala Besut for the guests who are travelling to Perhentian / Redang Island. He also provides the local city tour and the temples tour in and around Kota Bharu Town. Please check:

Grand Riverview Hotel: Nice view of the river from here

The Grand Riverview Hotel is formerly known as Diomand Puteri Hotel. It is located along the Kelantan riverfront, giving its patrons nice view of the river especially at dusk. Located at the heart of Kota Baharu, the hotel is within walking distance to shopping complexes, financial centres, offices, cultural and historical attractions.

As a 4 star hotel, the rooms are equiped with facilities such as air-conditioned, telephone, television (with in-house movies), hairdryer, personal safe and tea/coffee making facility. However, the furnishings look old and outdated. The hotel is also equipped with the largest ballroom in the city and other amenities such as Business Center service, gymnasium, sauna, swimming/wading pool and 3 dining outlets (local/international all day dining, Chinese restaurant and bar/lounge).

Nice view of the river from here.

KB INN: Kota Bharu's friendliest hostel.

KB Inn is one of the nicest places ive stayed. On the outside its not much to look at, the accomadation is basic but the rooms are clean, the owners very friendly and hospitable, and will treat you like one of the family if you give them respect as well. When i stayed my friend and i (due to our speaking a little malay) were invited out for the day with the family on numerious occasions.

They have a communal area where you can meet fellow travellers and also relax in the evening with VCD's and the television.

Light breakfast is also available should you want it.

Rebana Guest House

This place was a real surprise to me.
An amazing kind of guest house, made of a few different picturesque buildings set in a beautiful garden. Interesting furniture and decorations, too. And friendly staff and guests with some common spaces for meeting new friends.
