No bunks at this hostel!
Very nice guesthouse in a beautiful Melaka building dating from 1918. There are quite a few stairs to climb to the attic, where the big budget room is. There aren't any bunks here so no waking up in the middle of the night when you're bunk buddy decides to go to the toilet or anything. Breakfast is included and quite nice. The whole place has a very friendly atmosphere and is located close to the town centre.
Unique Quality: There is a dipping pool and nice architecture both inside and outside the building.

Basic but social and in a good location.
To be honest I was a bit worried about going there after reading the bad reviews in the Lonely planet. However found the place basic but fairly clean. Found the bar area at night a great place to meet other travellers. The owner taken us out in his car to late night bars at the other end of town both the nights I stayed.
Seems to be loads of cats about the place!!!!

Best budget accomodation
Dodgy, but good value for money, dorms for 10 ringets a night. Staff will take you around to play pool and party if you express any interest. Walking distance from any of the Melaka's main attractions, like the townhouse, chinatown, riverside etc.
Unique Quality: Yen, the owner of the place, is somewhat of a legend always spending time and nights with the guests. Nice for a weekend stay, probably not longer.
