Nice place, slight problems with location and bar
by TripAdvisor Member shardlojik
Stayed in the Holiday Inn Melaka over New Year for a few days. As the hotel is pretty new it was obviously nice and clean. Took a while to check in but was pleasantly surprised by the room. The shower was excellent, the air con wasn't too noisy and the TV was an LCD.
The swimming pool is a bit on the small side and can get quite busy. But it's was very nice to have a swim in the early evening and see the sun set over the Melaka Straights.
One of the slight down sides to the stay was that as mentioned above to get anywhere (by foot) you have to cross a 6 lane road! There are frequent gaps in the traffic, so it shouldn't take too long.
The other downside was that the bar/lounge area closed before midnight on New Year's Eve! So we had to pop to the bar in the hotel opposite. Also had problems with ordering a vodka and orange (the guy taking the order seemed confused at this request) and it had to be chased up several times. At least they showed live English Premier League football on a large projection screen!
Good service

My family and I stay at Holiday Inn Melaka from 06 - 08 Feb 08. It was a really convenient location, whether accesing to Mahkota Shopping Centre or even the new Dataran Pahlawan Phase 1 and 2 shopping centre.
Upon arrival, we were told that there were NO connecting rooms all city-view facing rooms. Was VERY disappointed with this as connectng rooms were much more convenient for my family who has both children and elderly parents staying along too. And the front desk staff was apologetic about this.
However, hotel staff provide good service in meeting our needs and were very helpful. And the essense kitchen waiters and waiteresses provide good service too. The price for the reunion dinner was expensive, RM 88++ per person. But the food was good.
We took an evening ride round the Melaka town on board the Hop On Hop Off bus which was priced at RM 5.00 per person. About 30 - 45 mins per trip. Do check with the front desk for more information.
Overall, the stay at Holiday In Melaka was a pleasant one, except for the imperfectness of non-connecting rooms available for city-view rooms.
Nice 4 star hotel with helpful, friendly staff.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn, Melaka for 3 nights in an executive room at the end of January 2008 and liked it a lot. The hotel was clean and comfortable but we liked it particularly because of the staff especially Jaz the Duty Manager and the staff in the Executive lounge who all went out of their way to be helpful.Even the hotel General Manager whom I chatted to a couple of times by chance was friendly and helpful.
The position of the hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the centre and although there is a dual carriageway to cross this was never a particular problem. There is also a hotel shuttle bus which goes strictly every 2 hours to and from the centre.Furthermore it looked like the hop on/hop off bus stopped at the hotel but we didnt use it as it didnt seem too frequent. Within about a 5 minute walk is both a new shopping mall and a hawker food market.
Our room was clean and comfortable and although we had a city view this was still good.Be aware though if you book online the hotel doesnt have all room types (eg king or twin) facing either the Straits or the City so I would advise checking direct with the hotel if you want a specific room type.
Breakfast at the hotel was included in our room rate and was good although sometimes there seemed to be not quite enough staff to clear plates and refill coffee etc.We also ate 1 evening at the hotels Italian buffet which was ok but not memorable.
Perhaps the only real criticism we have of the food is that dishes were not always replenished often enough.
We are surprised at other reviewers commenting on the size of the pool as when we were staying we were often the only people there (see photo)--indeed the whole hotel seemed really quiet although we were told that it was often full and then the pool would get really busy.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn and felt our 3 day stay in Melaka was perfect and this was due not just to the charm of the town but also to the staff at the hotel who we thought were excellent
Beyond expectations

I loved this place! Very sleek lobby with a relaxing bar, and a helpful concierge. The pool area was quite pretty, with an infinity edge pool looking over the Strait of Melaka. I didn't use the spa but the prices seemed reasonable enough for a hotel. I also spied a large gym with new equipment adjacent to the pool.
The room was wonderful, with a great view of the city, flat screen TV, bathroom with a large glass window into the room (kept the shades down b/c staying with my mother), and the best part, the shower! Best hotel shower I've ever had, they had both a conventional shower head/handheld sprayer and a rain shower head! Unlimited hot water and water pressure - I was impressed.
The buffet breakfast was quite extensive, and food was good and kept replenished. However, as we were there over school holidays, breakfast was a bit like feeding time at the zoo. Quite chaotic, with a shortage of free seats.
I agree with the last review about the slow elevators - they seem to randomly skip floors at times, hopefully it's just a bug in the system they have to work out.
Never again!!! Take care of your belongings!!!

Melaka with it's historical buildings is a really wonderful town, but I wouldn't recommend anybody to stay in the Holiday Inn.
The first thing happening during our two-days-stay in the hotel was that at our arrival they couldn't find our reservation - booked through a travel agent!!! Surprisingly? they had just one room left, but for a higher price. Running out of time we took it. Although it's a very new hotel there was a musty smell in the floors and the carpet of our room was already dirty. The elevaters are really slow, going to breakfast we needed about 10 minutes to get one. But most of all you should take care of your belongings. Coming back from breakfast after 30 minutes, money was missing and some other belongings were searched through. We complained at the front desk and the security manager was called. Of course, we expected an apology, but instead he blamed us. Never before we experienced so unfriendly staff. The loss of money was bad, but even worse was how we were treated!!!
dissappointed in melaka

was so dissapointed with this hotel. we took several rooms for a family end-of-year get- together expecting a certain standard of service synonymous with the hotel chain.
unfortunately, we were confined to the very low floors despite booking ahead and letting them know that we very much wanted a view of the straits. somehow, guests registering later were given the higher floors which were supposedly out. hmmm!
the front-desk staff had a most stern demeanour and did not smile troughout our entire stay which is most unMalaysian. a request for a room change the subsequent day was met with outright rejection meted out in a most domineering tone. and yet an in-room flyer beg guests to let them know what more they can do to make our stay memorable. hmmmm again!
altho it was nearly xmas, the lobby was spartan lacking any semblance of holiday cheer. there were also inadequate lifts (only two) resulting in horrible waiting time at peak times. especially unfortunate were the ones staying on the lower floors as the lifts were full each time they stopped. so, we had to trudge up and down those flights of stairs, children and elderly included.
i find the service at this hotel curt (bordering on impolite), insensitive and unresponsive. i suggest they make no promises so we have no expectations.

we chose the new Holiday Inn in Malacca for a 4 night visit to that province. We discovered it to be very shiny and new and the lovely staff were all very friendly and helpful. It has a big pool which we enjoyed using. The rooms were nice - good showers which is our number 1 priority- quality complimentary toiletries and housekeeping did a good job . We ate at the hotel and had beautiful meals in the hotel restaurant at night , ate nice lunches and snacks as well . We were impressed with the fact that a lot of local people now had a job because of this hotel and would definitely stay there again. It is very well located for walking into the town and looks out over the straits of Malacca. We found this hotel good value for money.
