Cafe 1511, Ringos Foyer Guesthouse or River View Guesthouse?

by SeLLDoGeYe

Hi VTs, please advise me on my accommodation in Melaka this December. For 3 nights only and I'll be travelling alone (female).

1. Cafe 1511
2. Ringos Foyer Guesthouse
3. River View Guesthouse

Thank you.

Of the three I only know the River View, which is lovely, right on the river, and has a really nice atmosphere. I think you would be happy there. I love Melaka, and will be there again in September, which will be my 3rd time!

Why don't you try the Tang House, it's bang on in the centre of Jonker street, accessible to every where, there is a bus stand nearby too.
see http://tanghouse.com.my/
Have a safe trip.

No, we did not because they were fully booked at the time we were there, but based on what we saw of the house, rooms etc. and we were offered to use the computer free of charge, and we had a very nice breakfast there. The hosts were really nice toward us, very helpful. So we can recommend them.

If you are planing a trip to Melaka, check out Package Trip Specials.
Ramesh Travel Service is the one we used. For SGD 120 we had the bus ride and a night at a five star hotel (Renaissance)! What a good deal! Ramesh Travel Service

Kids

by phil_uk_net

At the zoo, on the day I went, were a large group of kids on a school outing. They seemed more interested in me than the animals. Well, I do look and act strange. Initially they were shy but soon overcame this and I had to take pictures of them all. They were a mixed bunch but stayed in set groups. Boys, girls, Indians, Muslims. Nice kids, actually. Very well presented and extremely well-behaved.

The Portuegese Settlement

by sheherezad

Visit the Portuegese Settlement, inhabited by descendants of the Portuegese who colonised Malacca (as Melaka used to be called) centuries ago. They hardly look Portuegese anymore but retain many unique cultural traits and have surnames like Sta Maria and speak a very old Spanish dialect (I believe!).

Melaka's Dark Past

by bpacker

Though Melaka looks like a sleepy little place, her past was full of colour, history and bloodshed. Do you know that in 1600's, the Dutch and Portuguese fought viciously in the area that you see in the picture? 18,000 cannonballs rained on the hill and the fort and somehow the stout fort walls repelled several attacks. In the end, the Dutch chose to starve the people within the walls and more than 7000 people died over here of disease and starvation. Also, there had been accounts of starving mothers who ate their own dead children.

Visiting a Mall

by Azri_Azmi about Mahkota Parade

Mahkota Parade is among the pioneer modern concept mega mall established in Melaka. Situated in strategic Banda Hilir, its surely a hotspot in the weekend.

Many shops are inside this mall includes of departmental store, boutiques, restaurants etc. It is a 2 storey shopping mall.

During weekend, this mall is kinda crowded with visitors from all over includes local even. The traffic to enter the mall will be jammed and hard to find a parking space either.

This is still the best mall in Melaka yet but in front of it the Dataran Pahlawan Mall is recently being opened and its surely will have to compete for the best mall in Melaka.
