THE HARDEST BEDS IN THE WORLD

Terrible (1.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 30, 2014

I selected this hotel because the prices looked good, the hotel looked good the location looked good and the reviews looked good. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and told which tower my room was in. This place is huge. Although they comprise towers, the complex is very pretty, has lots of running water and beautiful plants. My room was on a high floor and looked out over the water. Inside I had an apartment actually. A full kitchen – larger than the one in my house – opened into a long living room with a TV and nice furniture. The bedroom was good sized and nice. The bathroom was efficient. Everything was fine until it was bedtime. The beds were as hard as a brick. I have never known a mattress to be this solid anywhere in the world. I ended up taking the cushions of the living room furniture and sleeping on the floor! The beds were absolutely diabolical. The only other issue I had was that the room next door had scheduled a big party with about 30 people. I explained what would happen if I heard them and 29 of them left within minutes. I spoke to reception in the morning and they verified they will throw anyone making noise out of the hotel.

So as long as you are not trying to sleep – this is a great hotel.

Why not try Century Mahkota Hotel. It was an apartment converted into a hotel and they have one or two bedroom with receiving room & kitchen/dining. It is not on the central part of the city, though but beside the Strait of Malacca, near the mouth of Malacca river, walking distance to tourist spots and malls.

Unique Quality: Hotel in apartment setting, pools, tennis court, view of Strait of Malacca low tide.

Directions: Across Mahkota Mall

More of a Serviced- Aparment

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 13, 2008

Mahkota Hotel Melaka is great value for money as it is more of a serviced-apartment rather than a hotel room. Therefore, you can squeeze in more people into one unit than you would a hotel room.

Located on the waterfront, Mahkota Hotel Melaka is adjacent to Mahkota Parade, the city's main shopping and entertainment complex and within very short walking distance to the various historical places of interest as well as the commercial hub of Melaka.

The hotel has a shuttle service to the nearby Tiara Golf and Country Club. Guests can also make use of the free shuttle service that is within city limits.

Unique Quality: I don't know whether this is unique but the hotel's special attraction on weekends and public holidays is the special appearance by the hotel's resident clowns Chiko and Kiko who performs at the hotel's lobby.

Directions: If you can find Mahkota Medical Centre and Mahkota Parade, then you are already very near Mahkota Hotel.

Very apartment like. Just lower your expectations for a 4-star hotel, and you will enjoy your stay here.
Good point is, it is very near to Mahkota Parade, so you can shop or catch a late night movie there and not be worried about getting back to your hotel safely.
That was what we did, we watched a midnight movie (Fantastic 4) with 6 children, and after the movie, we just walked back to the hotel without any problems at all.

The location of the hotel is ok. It is more like a resort and is suitable for children. They have the necessary facilities such as pools, a mini store, massage spa and many car park lots if you drive there. The compound is spacious. The room I stayed faces the sea. It has a small kitchen attached to the hall but without microwave oven. You need to bring your own kettle. Generally, the hotel staff were helpful and nice. Just across the road, is the biggest shopping centre of the city, the Mahkota Parade. On the left side of the shopping is a local food centre. With a map, within walking distance, you will reach most of the major attractions such as Christ Church, the museums, the Fort etc. And across the bridge of the river Jonker Street.

Great for families on a budget

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 6, 2006

This hotel (now re-named Makohta Hotel) is situated right next to the Makohta Shopping Mall, very convenient for your shopping needs. The location is also great for visiting the Dutch Square, Stadhuy's etc on foot.

The hotel rooms are actually small apartments, each with its own living room and kitchen. I stayed in an apartment with two bedrooms (that means four persons can stay in one apartment). It is also equipped with two bathrooms.

The hotel has the facilities you will expect to find - swimming pool, restaurants, conference rooms etc. Our booking is inclusive of breakfast, which was quite alright.

The downside is the fact that the hotel and the rooms look a bit old and tired. Amenities could have been better maintained.

No 1 choice for Melaka hotel

My family and I stayed n this hotel somewhere in June 2004. we booked junior suite as
other hotel rooms are fully booked. It is a 2 bedroom suite which can accomodate 4 person or 6 persons - for other two person you got to get extra bed. It has a small kitchen where you can find fridge and tea coffee making facilities. It has a table for 4 for you to have your meal together. The service was good. The breakfast was nice, many choices. If you come during peak season, you have to go breakfast as early as 7 am or you have to queue up for a long time.

Mahkota Parade shopping centre is just across the road. Across the Mahkota Parade , about 10 min walking, you can visit some historical places like A Famosa, etc. You also can take a ride by trishaw to other historical places within the area.

Unique Quality: Great pools, near historical places, have many room types as well as apartment, parking lots, near Melaka Mahkota medical centre, near shophouses.

Directions: behind Mahkota Parade and Mahkota medical centre

In the very heart of Malacca city is Century Mahkota Hotel, offering the very best in comfort and hospitality to discerning travellers.

The hotel is within a very short walking distance to major sightseeing and historical attractions and is situated on the waterfront close to Malacca's commercial hub. Adjacent is Mahkota Parade, Malacca's premier shopping and entertainment complex that caters to every need for fun, food and fashion.

Located on the waterfront in the heart of Melaka, adjacent to the Mahkota Parade shopping and entertainment complex and within short walking distance to the business hub of Melaka as well as the various historical places of interest.

Directions: The hotel is only 144 km away and approximately 1 1/2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur and it only took 3 hours of driving from Singapore!

An ordinary stay

Terrible (1.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 6, 2005

I stayed in this hotel during my March 2005 trip and the experience was not impressive at all. I stayed in the service apartment which has 2 rooms. The condition is so so and my fiends found out there was a mouse in the unit. The breakfast was very ordinary in comparsion with Hotel Equartorial.

I highly discourage booking this hotel.

Staying by the Waterfront

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 21, 2005

This place is more of a service apartment rather than a hotel. Almost every room over here comes complete with a kitchenette and a nice living room complete with TV. But other than that, there is nothing special about this place as the rooms are rather run down! The only plus points of staying here, I suppose, are the cheap cost and the location. It's near the sprawling mall and the Dutch square.

Unique Quality: Request for a room facing the waterfront when you're here and book in advance. This place is popular with comfort-lovin' Singaporeans. A buffet breakfast comes with every room but the food quality is only so-so and overcrowded with screaming kids.

Directions: Century Mahkota Hotel Malacca is just next to waterfront, opp Mahkota Parade, the big sprawling mall..

Service Apartments...

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 26, 2005

Century Mahkota has service apartments starting from RM230 for a one bed room apartment...

The only complaint I had was the water temperature in the bathroom was kinda low, so, it took us sometime to actually get off bathroom..Called up the management but nothing was done as they needed a plumber to rectify the matter...Guess the plumber was away on a holiday... :) nevertheless, we all managed to take our baths, smelling good the entire time there... :)

Unique Quality: The single room came with a tv set, sofa, balcony, queen size bed, a small kitchen with refridgerator and a kettle to boil water..

Our room faced the swimming pool...
