Melaka Sultanate Palace
by Audrey118
At the foot hill also is the Melaka Sultanate Palace. Take note that this is only a replica and not the original - which was destroyed when it was colonised by the Europeans.
The replica was built only in 1984. It is very much a cultural musuem.
Worth noting is that there is no nails in the construction and it uses only wooden pegs.
The Mall
by pres_16
When you think of Melaka, first words that come to mind is, it’s beautiful but an old town. Roaming around town made me realize, surprisingly, that it’s not just a home of history and past events, but, it’s a combination of history and modern day times. Like this big mall I found at downtown Melaka, it speaks of the continuing progress and effort to be a fully industrialized city.
The Stamp of VOC on Porta de Santiago
by bpacker
The biggest misnomer in Melaka must be the old fort gate at the bottom of the hill. To set the record straight, it's name is Porta de Santiago and not A'Farmosa as many folks will tell you. A'Formosa referred to an old portuguese fortress at the mouth of the Melakan River which eventually landed into the hands of the Dutch. Upon seizing the fortress, the Dutch put their stamp on Porta de Santiago. Hell yes, their company logo or to be more precise the (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie) coat of arms above the gates. Can you see it?
VOC was a powerful Dutch trading company in the 1600's. So powerful was VOC that she was granted a monopoly of trading in the east and allowed to wage wars with foreign princes!
Answer: It's on the shield carried by the soldier on your right.
From Historical Field to Shopping Mall
by Azri_Azmi about Dataran Pahlawan
Dataran Pahlawan Mall is the latest mall now in town. Being constructed in the historical field of Dataran Pahlawan itself, this mall looks impresive and promising.
Many shops inside this mall selling varieties of items. Choices of restaurant also are in this mall.
Easy access to Banda Hilir Historical Zone plus there is a beautiful fountain inside this mall being carved with Melaka historical events all around.
