A budget hotel not to be missed

Stayed here with family. 3D2N. Rented a family room. For a budget hotel, the facilities were quite satisfactory. I loved the bathroom. The dark-coloured old tiles really gives an authentic look. AC, TV, Coffee/Tea making facilities are standard. There's wall to wall carpet plus fairly sound-proofed doors.

Unique Quality: Tan Kim Hock is actually a successful businessman who is involved mainly in the production of local foodstuff (sauces, cakes, cookies, chips etc). so, the hotel has an adjoining building with a huge store where these products are sold at fixed prices. its worth trying. I personally favour the stinging 'sos cili padi'.

The hotel itself is situated in Semabok, not too far from the town centre. There is no in-house restaurant but plenty of Chinese eateries available nearby. There is also a 24/7 clinic nearby (next to the esso petrol liosk). You can buy steaming hot pau (steamed dough filled with either pork, chicken or red bean paste) or bread next to this clinic.

The Famous Durian Chendol at Tan Kim Hock

by bpacker about Tan Kim Hock

Now, if you're a foodie around these region, you would have heard the famous Durian Chendol at Tan Kim Hock. Though we felt that it was a tad pricey at RM3, gluttony ol' me and friends decided to have a taste to see whether it passed our litmus test. We promptly went to Tan Kim Hock, paid RM3 for a tiny coupon to exchange for a ladelled bowl of chendol. Hmm, despite the smiles you see in this picture, the chendol failed the test. First, we could barely taste the durian. Not surprising, since there was only a nano-speck of it on top of the ice. Secondly, the ice was way too coarse for liking. The visible specks of ice refused to melt and jarred the taste of the dessert, ugh.

Salivating? Read more delicious tips in bpacker's page.

Nice Cheap Seafood in Melaka?!

by buckywhip

Dear VTers

I NEED UR HELP!!!

I have tried the seafood @ Umbai and Portugese settlement...

is there any other place where we can go for some nice seafood (Chinese style)

Re: Nice Cheap Seafood in Melaka?!

Try BeiZhan in Melaka Raya. Others recommended Bulldog but didn't have time to try. If you are shopping at Tan Kim Hock, know your prices. My mom & aunts felt really ripped of. They bought Nonya brand curry, rendang, assam pedas. It was rm6.90. Buy 10 get 1 free. So they bought 44!. It was rm3.95 at carrefour.
