Vanakam, see my previous postings & replies to other members' queries on Malacca in the Malacca section of VT.

Cheers.

Vanakam, your other question is where in Malacca to alight from the coach.

There is a big sprawling coach station away from Banda Hilir, the Malacca central town area. From there, I suggest you take a taxi to whereever in Malacca you are staying, its much easier than struggling with your luggage while taking a local bus from there your hotel.

Hope this helps, cheers.

I booked in advance with Grassland online at this link and paid with a credit card. I received the ticket via email.

we only plan for a day tour....

Re: sin to melaka

My honest suggestion is that a Day Tour is simnply not worth it, unless you're driving, & have the flexibility of leaving whenever you want.

If you're bound by fixed parameters like coach arrival & departure times, take the fist morning coach to Malacca, leisurely see the sights, enjoy a sumptuous Peranakan dinner at a restaurant called Bayonya, then stay overnight there.

Next day, after a superb Indian banana-leaf lunch at Selvam's (or delicious Chicken Rice @ Farmosa), take the afternoon coach back & you should reach Beach Road by 6 p.m.

Hope this helps, but whatever you ultimately decide, enjoy yourself in Malacca, cheers !!

Travel Tips for Melaka

Economy & Wealth Distribution

by muddybok

State of Melaka as a whole is still very much depending on agricultural products with the exception of touristy and artistic charms around the Bandar Hilir. Street artists, food and drinks industries however blend in very well in Melaka because of its unique richness in both cultural and heritage values.

The fondest impression for me (since young) on Melaka are those talented street artists who make a living by painting really nice paintings based on A'Famosa, St. Paul Hill, Dutch Square, even the Jonkers St. and becoming the best tourism publicity material that keep drawing foreign tourists pouring into Melaka because some friends or friends of their visited Melaka before. They may not be rich, but they really contribute great deal to Melaka tourism.

Joss sticks for Prayer

by muddybok

Most Chinese (believe in Taoism faith) will use joss stick (stick of incense of the kind burned before a Chinese image, idols) in their prayer ritual.

Of course there are other mean of sacrifice besides the burning of incense, paper with gold sheets in the middle, fruits & flowers and many other sacrifices imaginable by Chinese.

What you can find in Malacca?

by diageva about Many things

there are a lots of antiques shops (with all what you can imagen) , chinise shops (papers for burning,...), artesan shops (things of natural wood). If you want to buy something sweet to eat you have a big shopping centre at the port near the St. Paul's hill. There you will find donuts.. and all sort of things.

Night Market / Pasar Malam

by cs_zee

Night Market or more known as Pasar Malam is a market that is held from evening until 10pm . This is a good way to observe the life of locals . Pasar Malam sells basically almost anything, from food to clothing, small electronics to medicine . ( every Tuesday at Kampung Lapan )
