In recent years, government of Malaysia educated the Muslims-Malay villagers a method of making money, that is to do a small business called Home-stay.
However, due to the way the Islamic Law and the Constitution of Malaysia of the pass, it is not easy for outside peoples to mix around with the Muslims-Malay. There are so many restrictions. You are not allow to drink alcohol, you are not allow to eat pork and non-halal foods, you are not allow to dress up too-non-Islamic, and many more, and your conversation with Muslims-Malay must be extremely careful always.
To stay with Muslims-Malay is a huge challenge for tourists, try it, speak Malay, do not speak English or any other languages because I afraid some of them might want to verbally insult those whose are not able to speak Malay especially the locally born Malaysian tourists. I am able to speak fluent Malay language, no problem at all but I have no confidence they want to accept me because I have been rejected once.
