I stayed in this place for only one night though this place had a lovely view of Mount Brinchang at God-only-knows- how many thousand metres above sea level.

    Why did I leave?

Well, I think many would agree with me that even at USD$53 , with a famous brand name and all, this place has seen better days. Let me sum up my miseries:
1)The room was sad, tired looking, with partying insects, and most of the facilities (swimming pool ) were not opened at all.
    2) The food was also expensive and one day of sampling it left with a thirsting rage for simpler fare
3)This place is enormously popular with tour groups so you'll be faced with crowds and screaming kids during meal times.

Ugh unique qualities? The only savers I can think of is that it's the first hotel that you'll encounter after travelling on the simpang pulai highway and it's supposedly the highest hotel in the whole of malaysia. Other than that, the place is simply run-down.

    Update: March 2007
The Equatorial Resort at Brinchang has two types of accommodation, hotel units and apartment style. The hotel units are suitable for 2-3 adults (with extra bed-which is chargeable), while the 1 BR apartments can accommodate up to 4 adults, 2 BR can accommodate up to 6 adults. The apartments may come with some cooking facilities. All apartments have at least 2 bathrooms and are very spacious so privacy is not a problem.
The hotel units are more conveniently located while the apartments are more spread out. If you have elderly people or young children, you may be better off staying at the hotel, because the facilities and restaurants tend to be within the hotel complex.

The barbeque buffet dinner at the hotel is good value, but during public holidays and school holidays, it's better to go a bit later (after 8pm) because the BBQ food tends to be snapped up as quickly as the staff can dish it out during peak times (6.30 to 7.30pm). However, there's lots of other food to eat, such as fried rice, salads, soup, breads, while waiting for the BBQ meats to be ready so you certainly won't go hungry.

We stayed here some years ago when it was brand new. I came here with my family, my mum, my sister and her family, and we stayed together in a large three-bedroom apartment. We all enjoyed our stay tremendously. At that time, despite that the hotel being at 90+% occupancy, we never felt that it was too crowded.

As the gardens were large, we took many long walks within the gardens and also nearby to the farms down below. We were able to pick tamarillos that were growing wild immediately outside of someone's farm.

The Equatorial Camerons is a large hotel and has facilities for corporate groups. See the website for more details.

View: Good views of the farms & surrounding valley below (see pics)

Location: Good central location, right next to a Strawberry Farm/shop which sells jam and afternoon tea.

The pool was very COLD when we were there, perhaps it has improved. Despite the cold, we did go for a swim. The gym was new and not too bad and I had fun working out (more like I wanted to get away from the kids for half an hour - haha).

Slight Warning:The road around the entrance to the Equatorial Resort gets very jammed during public holidays and school holidays. This is because there are many stalls around the entrance to the resort and cars are always trying to get in and out. My suggestion: be prepared to wait & be patient. :-)

We tried to book the superior room at Equatorial Hotel 1 week before our departure through AsiaRooms. However, probably due to school holidays, there is no more superior room for the dates that we had chosen. My husband decided to pay a bit more to stay in the 1-Room Apartment instead of the hotel. We had our own parking space in front of the apartment. There is a living room where we can enjoy watching the television programmes and the scenery.

We paid 250 SGD for 2-Night stay at the 1-Room apartment (Breakfast inclusive).

  • The most luxurious hotel in Cameron Highlands ?

I stayed at Equatorial Hotel in Cameron Highlands, & I'm not sure its the most luxurious, but it was certainly very nice & the service was very good.

I hope this will meet your requirements.

I'd suggest you go by car, because you have a lot more flexibility on what time you want to reach there & leave, compared to adhering to rigid coach schedules.

Its also better to go on weekdays, because its less crowded & you're less likely to be intimidated by the sheer swell of the weekend crowd.

Have a great time in Cameron Highlands, cheers.

  • Had a very pleasant stay. The room is nicely furnished, and best of all, it has Internet access (well at least in the deluxe rooms).

The staff are also very friendly and genuinely cordial.

It's a fairly decent and one of the more affordable hotels at Cameron Highlands. The room was clean, but a little old. It seems to be a popular hotel among locals as it was packed during the time I was there.

Breakfast at the coffee house was good with a wide variety. Dinner was good as well, generous portions.

Ironing facilities located in a room near the pool (how unusual is that). So it was a little inconvenient to take clothes to the room for ironing.

    Good value for money.

Its rooms are quite standard and nothing special. Be sure to ask for a room with balcony when you check in so that you can have a good view of the Brinchang Kea Farm. From your hotel room, you can see mountain range, skylight roofs of vegetable farms and flower nurseries at hill slopes.

Tea-making facilities & mini fridge are available so that you can brew yourself a cup of Cameronian tea and keep the vegetables & strawberries that you have bought fresh.
