Quite a nice place to stay, so cool at night. Anyway, its free Company trip to Cameron Highland so we have no complaints.
I was told by the staff of Father's Guesthouse that their dormitory beds were all taken up and what was left was a double room. She made a call to Eight Mentigi Guesthouse to check if they had dorm beds or single rooms available. Apparently the owner of Father's Guesthouse has a share in Eight Mentigi Guesthouse. Eight Mentigi has a single room available for RM$20 per night. I went over to take a look and found Eight Mentigi to be a newly built guesthouse with fresh furnishings and clean interior. I was pleased with the room condition was worth the price paid. The shared toilet was clean and the water heater worked fine. The common living area was well done up with enough electrical point per table to facilitate the use of notebook computers. There was also Free WIFI made available to staying guest. The LCD TV and satellite cable box were also made FREE for staying guest to use. The staff was also polite. This is a single storey guesthouse, hence no stairs to tire you out.
It was quite a pleasant stay for me at Eight Mentigi Guesthouse, I must say.
As it was located at a short distance away from the bus station and rows of shop houses and restaurants, the environment was just right for a peaceful and quiet stay. The air was fresh and you will not get to hear the bustling noise of moving traffic. Yet it is just a very short walking distance to the rows of eateries and convenient stores. I just like the new and fresh clean look of its interior.
Please check VERY CAREFULLY before you decide on this place. TOTAL MISREPRESENTATION on the part of the owner. I paid RM800 to spend a crummy christmas eve with my family members. None save one braved the horrible unhygienic bathroom(s) to take a shower, only to find that the water pressure was almost non existent! The "well equipped" kitchen comprised an old fridge which had mould growing on its gaskets and interior (egg tray), cupboard with one door missing, rice cooker that's so scratched you wouldn't cook rice in it for even your pet!, rusty utensils, absolutely filthy pots and pans. Other horrors include algae- & mould-encrusted bathrooms and kitchen sink areas, the 4th "bedroom" turned out to be a partitioned-off area (3/4-height wooden partition) off the kitchen, horrible lumpy sagging mattresses and sofa set, dirty throw cushions to which were adhered lots of hair, a front door that will not close shut without using the key or latch, a pair of wet & obviously used item of underclothing in one of the bathrooms, bathroom sinks were black and grimy, a broken glass top table that was simply just glued together and covered with a cheap knitted triangular shaped cloth, no astro subscription as claimed, and more....
I was not even given the bungalow that I had booked (there were two on this property).
I called the owner to complain and she said that my expectations were too high!! When I pointed out that it was pure misrepresentation on her part, she turned round and asked me whether I was aware how much she had paid to invest in this property and how long it'd take her to recoup her capital!!! Then she cut me off and has not been in touch since. We checked out on Christmas Day as opposed to Boxing Day, and as early as we could. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY PHOTOS TO SEE FOR YOURSELF & DON'T GET TAKEN IN LIKE I WAS WHEN I CHECKED THE WEBSITE. If only I could upload more than the 5 permitted pictures.
BTW, I have marked this accommodation as "Other" because I don't think the state of the place can qualify it as one that is habitable.
The only upside is that there is a great clean park just a minute away and that's where we spent our xmas eve, eating takeout there instead of having our own cook-in.
First off let me start by saying that there are two lodges named Daniels. Go to the one on the hill not on the main street.
Daniels Lodge is lovely. It's a cozy wooden guesthouse set upon a hill.
With a warm campfire outside, a great bar to play pool and cards, a series of swinging chairs to enjoy a book from the library/book exchange, and an indoor makeshift movie theater with hundreds of DVD's to chooses from, Daniel's lodge is a great place for backpackers who want to meet other like minded travelers and relax.
Cluny Lodge is a three-storeys cottage with only 8 rooms available. There are attached shower in each room. The common living-room, games room and dining-room are located on the 1st story and there's a common sitting room located on the 2nd storey.
Cluny Lodge is the perfect sanctuary for a quick getaway in a home stay environment.
An electric air-pot and teacups are provided in each room. Towels are also provided. Please bring your own toiletries.
The services are good and friendly. We also booked our 2 days guide with mini-van through the staff at the lodge. For SG$30 per night for 2 pax per room, this lodge is ideal for a quiet getaway.
Western or Chinese Style meals are available at the lodge at the following price
Breakfast - RM6 per pax with a choice of Western or Chinese Style.
Lunch - RM12 per pax (1 soup + 3 dishes)
Dinner - RM13 per pax (1 soup + 3 dishes)
For meal rates details, check http://www.aloharesorts.com.sg/templates/pdf/mealrates.pdf
Please inform the lodge staff early for meals arrangement.
My group had both night's dinner at the lodge, the food is well-cooked and very fresh. The best part is, you dun have to fuss about *chasing the houseflies away while enjoying your food.
*Houseflies flying into your food is very common when eating outside. Therefore to prevent contamination of food, you'll see pple busy eating with one hand and waving their free hand to chase away the flies.
Aloha Cluny Lodge is open for booking for Singapore citizens and permanent residents only. A minimum of two nights' stay per booking is required.
The staff knocks off at 9pm every night.
The lodge has a garden and offers great view both day and night. There's also a playground nearby. The lodge is located 5,000 ft above sea level.
However, big tour buses will not bring you there as the road to the lodge is pretty narrow. They would probably drop you off at Strawberry Park Resort and you have to walk or arrange for pick-up with the staff at Cluny Lodge.
During Eid 2007, and on the way back to KL from KB, we thought it would be a nice detour to overnite in Cameron. We got there around 6 pm and wanted to stay at Rosa Pasadena, but the place is fully booked; and so are others around it.
We saw billboard for Iris Hotel, call them and thank heavens they have a few rooms available.
And it was nice too since it's not that far from town center, it's practically within walking distance but which Malaysians walk right.
We paid RM118.00 for double bed room and it was spacious for us (me, wife, and 8-yr old son).
The lady at the reception initially offered us a room for RM100 a night, which was slightly more than we wanted to pay. Seeing as there were dorms below, and some rooms without attached bathrooms, we enquired about those. "Oh, those we don't open up to locals," she said. Certain that there was some kind of misunderstanding, we asked again. "No locals. We have many foreigners staying with us... Germany, France, Italy... they leave their valuables everywhere, their passports... we used to have problems with locals staying there as well." Basically she was accusing me of being a thief since we were locals (as was she, interestingly enough). I obviously did not conceal my shock and outrage... and so just to clarify, I pointed in the direction of the dorms, and said "So, only white people" "Yeah." We heard later from another guesthouse that apparently Father's guesthouse used to simply refuse to house locals, and only recently due to a slowdown in business, have they begun to offer their rooms to Malaysians. I am appalled by the policy of the guesthouse, but even more by the lady at the reception who didn't seem to think there was anything wring with it, and was even proud of her institution beintg so "elitist." I never would have thought that places like this still exist in my country. Our government seems to think that in about 15 years or so, Malaysia will be a developed nation. But all the buidlings and technology in the world cannot fill the void that exists in terms of having a developed mindset. It's quite possible that most of the travellers at Father's Guesthouse have no clue about this policy, since very few locals stay at these kinds of places anyway. So pass this information on to anyone you know travelling in the region.
Stayed 4 days at this wonderfull place. The rooms are big and very clean. The manager Mr. Zain is extremely nice, as are the employees working there.

Near The Amenities And Night Market.
The Cool Point is situated at Tanah Rata where you can find the amenities such as hawker centre, ATM machine etc. That is also one of the reason why we stayed there. One of the staffs even took us on a tour to its strawberry farm! Overall, The Staffs Are Friendly but the hotel is not that good.
Very Friendly Hotel Staffs And Near The Amenities.
The showers were a bit rough and the room looked like a prison cell (less the bars). However it was a good base for exploring the Cameron Highlands. There was a good common area,a bar and a place out the back where they have an open fire every night. A great place for meeting other travellers.
I have been to Rainbow hotel, Merlin Inn, Heritage hotel and some apartments. Have left a comment bout Merlin Inn. Rest of it, is bout the same, except the expensive ones like Lake house. The cheapest motel to get is FATHER's Guest House
Daniel's had great service and information. They had a person there who led hikes into the mountains, and actually seemed to know where she was going! It was clean and had a great restaurant attached to it.
Wow. What can I say. Daniel's Lodge was cheap and easy to get to. They had a ton of movies with a big screen to watch them on. And there was a firepit in the back patio (behind the restaurant). Really, what more do you need!
REally cheap place US 12 for 2 persons.
But oh how noisy was it at night, you could hear the motorbikes and cars speeding by on the main road in front of this shop-hotel !
Even hot water was not available till 10 pm, and then at a trickle ..... though later it became O K .
Not worth even it's cheap price, as you don't get a proper sleep.
Stay away from this !
