More about Merlin Inn Resort Cameron Highlands

High tea with high prices

by Restless-in-kl about Jim Thompson @ Cameron Highlands Resort

As the brand new Cameron Highlands Resort is the most expensive hotel in Cameron Highlands, I wanted to take a peek at the grounds of this posh place especially its spa. Decided to have high tea and enjoy the ambience.

High tea comes at a steep price of US$20 per person. You are given a nice pot of tea, big strawberries with 3 types of sauces (chocolate, clotted cream and vanilla sauce), scones with homemade strawberry jam, finger sandwiches and 2 savouries (puffs). All very small size servings (I would call it "dainty"!)

The strawberries, jam and scones were lovely but the rest of the stuff were not that good. So, it's only worth while going there if you're looking for a comfortable spot to spend the afternoon in a big armchair, a good book and enjoying the gardens, pools of the hotel.

Hello Adam, frankly speaking if you want to go to Cameron Highland better you go during a regular days because it always full house during the weekend. For the hotel you can choose among these three. Those are Cameron Highland Resort, Strawberry Park Resort or Equatorial Cameron Highlands. Those are among the best hotels in Cameron Highland ( based on my experience..!!!). Others i am not so sure. I am sorry Adam. Normally people will go by car go to Cameron Highlands. Because the bus services are so limited. Also for sure you wish to go to many interesting places at Cameron Highland by your own.I hope that my expalnation will help you Adam.

I love this place because the air is very cool, the staffs are very friendly
One of the best hotels Ive been to so far is Equatorial Cameron Highlands..Well maintained, exellent service, good food, perfect location which overlooks the lake...and of course beautiful garden...What else can go wrong on a perfect vacation on the hills

Can't wait to go back.....
I feel rejuvenated!!!!!!

"Beautiful Scenery"

Cameron Highland is located at range of mountains called Titiwangsa in the state of Pahang, Malaysia between 1370-1700 metres above sea level. Of course it has a cool climate up there that became the perfect place to grow tea and vegetables. U can see beautiful scenery of tea plantation on your side while go up to the top of the mountain. What I like most when each time I went there is tasting the strawberry filled with hot chocolate that can be found at the shops along the main road or at night market at Brinchang.

"Smoke House"

There are also good accomodation u can find like YTL Cameron Highland Resort, The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands, Equatorial Hotel, Strawberry Park Resort Hotel, Heritage Hotel and Ye Olde Smokehouse Hotel and Restaurant and many more. The most I like is Ye Olde Smokehouse Hotel and Restaurant because of its building itself look like an old english house. The room rate is quite expensive for me. I think its around MYR400 and above per night.Eventhough u didn't plan to sleep there, u can also have meals there. Once you step at the Smokehouse Hotel, you will noticed that you are in your own place for those who are came from west country.

"Transportation From Kuala Lumpur-Cameron Highland"

From Kuala Lumpur, you can take a bus that provide by travel agencies that can be found easily in Kuala Lumpur town. The journey from Kuala Lumpur will took about 2 hours and a half to reach Tapah and from Tapah, it will took around 2 hours more to reach up there.

3D2N stay

by jasmensze

Is it worth it to join some day tours while visitng CH? or is it pretty easy to go around by yourself?
And does anyone know anything about Cameron Highlands Resort?? It looks beautiful (eventhought quite expensive). I read somewhere that says it's a bit out of the way. How easy is it to get around CH during the day and during the night?

Re: 3D2N stay

Hi there...for Cameron Highlands, u need not join a tour b'cos it's really easy to get around (day/nite) but that is provided u're driving. Anyways, go & visit the Pahang-Cameron Highlands page here & u'll get lots ot tips fr there...
May u enjoy ur trip !!!

CH Resorts has a golf course infront of it. If you just wanted to getting around CH, you can actually consider Strawberry Park Resort or the Equatorial Hotel.

Strawberry Park Resort has different apartments that you can choose. Eventhought the rooms in old patterns but quite comfortable. They have package for touring.

Equatorial Hotel is in the peak of Cameron Highlands. Very windy. They have package for touring too.

Must have your dinner at one of the steamboat restaurant at Brinchang town...excellent..!

Hi

If you are not driving, you can take the public buses. The terminal is located in Tanah Rata township. Provided you have alot of time to spare, you would be required to wait (sometimes 15 minutes or more) for the buses that take you to Boh Tea Plantation, Kampong Raja (vegetables farm), Brinchang township and other destinations (get info at the terminal).

T-Cafe (Tanah Rata) serves delicious scones and a variety of teas. You might want to visit the Pasar Malam at Brinchang (check with the folks on the days of operation. I remember it being on weekends). The stalls sell delicious seafood fritters and snacks, loads of other household items, fresh vegetables, etc.

There are budget hotels at Tanah Rata, e.g. The Oriental. It operates a restaurant too. A room with a single and queen-sized beds costs RM50. Clean and good enough, but check the showers for warm water that flows and not trickle.

Happy Holiday!

Cameron Highland Resort is not out of the way. Its along the main road between Brinchang and Tanah Rata, provided you drive. Otherwise, stay close to town. But none of that standard in either towns. Hv fun!

Hi again !

Hello to all...long time no see. Have lost my login here & just found it recently.

Updates on Cameron Highlands...been up there twice but never stay at Jurina's...hehe~ First trip was a last min during the 1st day of one Chinese New Yr (2yrs bck!), stayed at Cool Point-not that ok but no choice for a last min plan. Then, second trip Mar'06 during a long weekend (2D1N)...stayed at Equitorial Hotel. It's a nice place but of course, we got a good rate ~RM248++ thru the internet & later found out that the walk-in rate was RM400++ !! Phew! Luckily we had our reservation done.

Well...Cameron is indeed a refreshing & cool place to visit. We'll be visiting there again when time permits. Maybe this time we'll try out some apartments; as both previous visits were hotel stay...
All feedbacks are welcome, esp. if u've experience on any apartment stay.

Re: Hi again !

by specialjy

Hi chia,
Yeap...indeed great to be back ! Well...another trip back there ? Good for u ! I've been up for the third time at end Oct last yr. & this time stayed at Strawberry Park Resort (Tioga Apt). This resort is real neat & clean, we enjoyed our stay there. Generally, the price is quite reasonable eventhough we went during a peak season. Must eat - 1) steamboat at Brinchang or Tanah Rata (most shops offer similar package & all are tasty!) 2) the local steam corn, think called pearl corn (extremely yummy !!!).

Hmm...Cameron has never been a disappointed place, no matter how many times we visit it ! Anyways, hope your plan to visit again come true by now :))
