Merchant Hotel
My arrival in Georgetown coincided with the Hindu Deepavali festival. Not only that but Penang was chosen this year to be the special venue in Malaysia for Deepavali celebrations. The King was here, as was the Deputy Prime Minister (who will be Prime Minister next week) and a host of other dignitaries.
Because of all this I had great problems finding a place to stay. I managed to get in the Merchant and was grateful to find a room but it is not the best of places. My room was on the corner, overlooking two very busy roads. The noise was awful and went on constantly, all night. The room wasn't the cleanest but it was okay. Going up to the room didn't bode well as the lifts and corridors are appallingly filthy.
Unique Quality: None really.
