by moomoos There are many B&B in the town area. The pic shows a reggae pub...where it is also a B&B upstairs. The last time I checked out the price (which was some 2 years ago)...it was only RM5 a nite for a bed in the dorm, without air-conditioning. That's about less than USD$2.
Cheap and almost clean. Plus you get to meet almost all of Penang's backpackers here. This is where one of the cheapest accomodation is. Theme: MotelComparison: least expensiveAddress: Chulia St & Kimberly St.Other Contact: http://penangturfclub.com/penang

well, this might sound luxurious way to stay. I have to stay here because my previous employer paid up all the expenses during my course of assignment in Penang. Lucky me! Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: near to Lebuh Chulia

Note: I did not stay overnight at this resort; I just went out to check it out, as I was nearby and the island looked interesting. It is on that small island (Pulau Jerejak) just east of Penang, south of Penang Bridge. A ferry goes there every couple of hours. I went over just for a couple of hours. It looks like a 2 or 3-star resort and it mainly caters to local corporate team building, with many activities such as paint ball wars, a suspension bridge, a nature trail, archery, etc. The pool looked very nice, but quite small. The "beach" looks nice from a distance, but is mainly a few truckloads of white sand spread on grass, going to the edge of, but not into, the water. There is a large sign posted "strongly not recommending" swimming in the water, which does look disgusting. Just beyond the beach, the grass was swampy and there is construction going on right next to the grounds - not active construction, just a bunch of disgusting landfill material there for all to see. There is also a campsite. You can rent tents and buy food from the island.
