Budget resort
The Casuarina Beach Resort is located at the southern end of Batu Ferringhi Beach. It is away from most of the other hotels but not so far as to make it too far for walking to the restaurants and night markets.
The resort itself is old and a tad worn but the rooms are spacious and clean with pretty good views from the balcony.
Unique Quality: Great resort at a budget price with lots of facilities like a pool with bar, restaurant, kiosk and some shops.

Casurina Beach Resort
We arrived by bus from KL in the middle of the night/early morning and didn't want to pay for a full nights accommodation at the Shangri La (too expensive for just a few hours), so we got into a taxi in Georgetown, and asked the taxi driver to take us somewhere nice, but cheap.... and we ended up at the Casuarina Beach Resort on Batu Ferringhi Beach.
I think it was about a 3 star..... (never stayed anywhere that low before)... but it was pleasant enough. The room was spacious but old. Clean though... just old. And the bathroom was old too. It was a good design resort (much like the others on the road), but just in DESPERATE need of a re-vamp. Since we did arrive in the middle of the night, we were STARVING from the long trip, so decided to order room service! Went for the basic hot dog and wedges..... WOW.... very surprised... they were delicious!!! Anyway, after our dinner (mid night snack) we went to bed.
Awoke to a free daily paper.... and a pretty good view out the balcony of the rest of the resort and the beach!! Breakfast was included in the price, so we went to the outside bistro (overlooking the pool) for our buffet...... a large assortment of food. I personally was not impressed by anything.... so I didn't really eat. But my partner thought it was good enough.... nothing special.... but edible!!!
Unique Quality: So yeah, this resort has a good concept.... but very old and run down and in need of some attention!!!! We did also get a free welcome drink, so after breakfast we got dressed for the day, then went to the bar for our drinks. They were nice enough!!!
The resort had plenty of things, pool bar, restaurant, kiosk/shop, tailor etc.... plenty of things... even an optomotrist on site who fixed my glasses (NO charge either... a very nice man)!
So yeah, this resort is decent enough... not overly impressive, but not completely terrible either..... just old. I would recommend this place to tourists on a budget..... or people who are not like me, and not after the complete luxary!! (we left to stay at the Shangri La Golden Sands Resort after this place)!!!
So yeah, it's ok!!! Just a tad bit old!!!! But the staff are all wonderful, and polite!!!

Bt Ferringhi Hotel
That was a long long time ago, when I didn't ( or couldn't ) appreciate the differences in hotels, service etc. You need much experience for that !
Should be an OK hotel, or else they wouldn't still be in business !

Nice place - nice price!
We checked in to this hotel after checking out of the Ferringhi Beach Hotel. We asked if they had any specials and they told us that we could have a room and breakfast for RM200 per night - not bad...
While the rooms were not any nicer, the air-con worked well and the overall 'feel' of the hotel was altogether happier and more like a beachside hotel should be.
All room looked out over the ocean but some rooms have better views than others. The breakfast was ok and the food at other times of the day was also ok.
The best aspect of this hotel was that it was right on the sand. There were plenty of sunlounges and while there was no pool bar, the main hotel bar was right next to the pool. The pool seemed small but when you're in there it's more than adequate.
Staff seemed generally happy and friendly. I would recommend this hotel as being a good place to stay if you don't want to spend much but still want an ok hotel with direct frontage to the ocean. While we only swam in the pool I think it makes a big difference having an uninterrupted view when you're relaxing.
I think this hotel would be good for families as well.
My only concern is that it's a reasonable walk to the centre of Batu Ferringhi. Having said that, we walked in to town most nights. A taxi fare is RM6 (or about A$2.50).

Fantastic Hotel
Have stayed at most of the hotels in Batu Ferringhi but have not enjoyed oue stays more than at this hotel.
We now have been staying at the Casuarina for the past 8 years .
The staff are still the same people year in and year out and they are the most friendly and helpful poeple you could wish to meet.
The hotel is no Five Star place BUT the service you receive makes you feel like a king
Unique Quality: The staff I would have to say make this hotel "unique"

The Casuarina Beach Resort
We stayed in the Casuarina as part of a deal from Kuoni (£500 for flights and 14 nights accomodation) so I'm not sure of the cost if you book seperately. The Casuarina was a good base in Penang: friendly staff and a good sized pool overlooking the beach. I didn't have any meals there as there is so much other choice in the area at much cheaper prices, although we did have a room-service burger during a torrential downpour!
Unique Quality: The casuarina does have a slight retirement home feel about it as there's a lot of people who seem to go there year after year. This gives the hotel quite a nice quiet, slow-paced feel about it but it's not the place to stay if you are looking for a lively bar and hoping to meet other young travellers / holiday makers.

Holiday resort with cozy atmosphere
The Casuarina is a normal beach resort but has a cozy and friendly atmosphere with the open lobby, the small lovingly created garden and the friendly, charming rooms. One can see and hear the sea while having breakfast under the pavilion.
Though Penang might not be the first destination for beach lovers, this is a good place to spend some lazy days.
Swimming in the sea can not always be recommended as there might be a few or more jellyfish.
Unique Quality: The view from our room was fantastic, it was overlooking the pool, palm trees and the sea. I mostly enjoyed looking out of the window in the morning, enjoying the beautiful view and knowing that breakfast is already being prepared! :-) I felt very much at home here.
