Formerly known as Crown Prince, it is now Crown Jewel Hotel.
It is a business/tourist hotel with over 450 deluxe rooms..
Located at Tanjung Bungah which is closer to George Town than Batu Ferringghi.
There is a small beach front and an excellent swimming pool.
All the rooms faces the sea.
Location close enough to get to Gurney Drive Hawker food center every night.
Stay there for 3 nights in July 2006.
The hotel is along the beach and is about 20 min far from town (Komtar).
There are regular bus service for cheap money.
The hotel in itself is pretty old and rundown. Carpet need to be replace in and outside the rooms (especially corridors).
The breakfast was included but really nothing special.
If you are in a standard room, chances are that your surroundings will be very noisy.
The place becomes a bit more alive on we when regional tourists are coming here.
The taxi from the airport to Crown Jewel is about 50 MYR.
In one word, I do not really recommend to stay here !
Unique Quality: price ??? If I remember well, I paid around 125 MYR. www.asiatravel.com
Regulare public transport to town.
Nearby convenient store
When i planned my trip for Penang, i wanted to stay at a beachfront hotel but also an affordable luxurious one nearer to town if compared to those in the Ferringhi area. So i decided to take the troublesome method and booked into two different hotels a day apart. My first night was to be at the Crown Jewel which was rather cheap for a beach hotel and then to splurge a little on the Northam to balance things out :) With the price i was paying for which was about RM120 per night, i was expecting something with a lesser quality but i was proven wrong because the Crowne Jewel was actually not bad :) The room was absurdly big and spacious and comfortable as well but just a little worn around the edges. Service was fantastic too and the hotel had its own beachfront but the only disappointing fact was that it is connected to the public beach.. but then i guess it all adds up to the atmosphere. However this hotel appears to cater more to families and is a great family hotel but if you are thinking of having a quiet romantic stay, dont go for this :)
Unique Quality: Oh, i have eaten many free breakfast at hotels and surprisingly again, the breakfast spread was really good with a very wide range of food. I like the pool in this hotel as well and oh did i mention that service is great? heh heh :) I also like this hotel because there are bus stands right in front making it convenient to get around.
A good basic hotel on 17 floors, which has just gone thru a major refurb. Right on the beach of Tanjung Bungah, rooms with seaview are obviously the best but even a room of the back of the hotel overlooks lush tropical jungle covering the surrounding hills. The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was an international buffet....and I mean international! Steaming tureens held piles of dried fish and onions with rice or chicken and noodles, whilst at the other end of the table were packets of Rice Krispies and chocolate milk or bread and butter pudding with custard, and little Danish pastries sat next to a bowl of baked beans! Step straight onto the beach and stroll and watch the little fishing boats struggling against the surf to bring home their catch. Early evening seems to be family time as groups of Malay ,Chinese or Indian bring their children down to play by the sea or fly kites running and laughing along this white sand strip.
Unique Quality: The pool area was superb with a huge pool and a jacuzzi style pool. I had the most amazing foot and leg massage from a Malay masseus whilst lying on my sunbed on the pool terrace, and sipped delicious fruit punches served from the pool bar.
not bad. value for money. went there on sep 01.
took the deluxe rm, only a bit worn down that's all.
the flush can still be improved.
the sound of the lapping waves r soothing , it's was windy so we left our balcony sliding door open.
