Double Deluxe: Average Cost - Hotel Malaysia

The first and second time when we visit Penang, we got a promotional rate for a room for double at RM88++

The location of the hotel is convenient.
It takes about 15 minutes walk from the hotel to reach the main bus station located in Komtar (There are lots of Bus Companies providing tarnsport services to different states in Malaysia)

Too many in one street: Chulia street Budget Guesthouses & Inns

Chulia street is the famous village for budget tourists and backpackers globally to visit and stay. Rooms rates average RM15 per head. Condition of rooms have no idea because I never stay, I am a local Penang staying with my parents. Try Love Lane's budget hotels too, very nicely setup.

A good link for you.

Batu Ferringhi guesthouse

I'm usually very wary of taxi drivers offering hotel accommodations but I stayed at a guesthouse in Batu Ferringhi suggested by the taxi driver (after seeing the location of the hostel I originally wanted---New Asia Hostel...not the most convenient location).

The taxi driver turned out to be some relative of the guesthouse owner named Bo--friendly fellow. The guesthouse was 50
ringgits without air con, 60 with, about 30-40
minutes by taxi (tourist price of 25 ringgits) from the bus station at KOMTAR (just look for the tallest, circular building on the island) in Georgetown.

Dont know the name of the guesthouse but there is a string of them along the beach next to the Holiday Inn.

Location---a few steps and you re right at the beach. No TV or hot shower but decent facilities.

Holliday inn: Beach Hotel

It's better to spend a little more money and stay in Beach not in the town , i stayed with my sister in Holliday Inn and it was real fun

The pool is great ! Specially because of the Jellyfish you can not go in to the sea . The breakfast and bar was really okay , also you can enjoy a music band twice a week there , they are really cool!

Mingood Hotel: Simple & Friendly Hotel

I would recommend to anyone on budget basis. Expect very simple and basic facilties though I would give a thumbs up to the staff, very helpful and very flexible. I wouldnt say my stay was fantastic but fairly comfortable. Short walking distance to Komtar Shopping Mall (town centre bus station), Campbell St (penang town night market), Kampung Keling Mosque and Cantonese Mansion.

I was astonished to found that the hotel has a roof top(see pictures). Not bad for a 2 star hotel.

MYR70 = GBP12 if booked online through Asiatravel.com
however try call the hotel direct as you may get rate as low as MYR50 per night includes breakfast

This is a cheap and friendly guesthouse located 38 steps from Batu Feringgi Beach! The prices are US$7.00 for a double fan room and a bit more for aircon. This is a friendly guesthouse located in the best location, on the best beach!

Cheap and on the Batu Feringgi Beach! Very helpful too, with bus and ferries. Also there is no curfew nor lock-outs.

Shalini's Guest House: Beach front guest house

A small guesthouse around Batu Ferringghi, built right in front of the beach. This is definitely a backpackers heaven. Room rate is as low as Rm 50 for a 4 persons room.

Clean and comfortable room with/ without attached bath. Usually with air-con or budget one with ceiling fan. Operated by the friendly Shalini's family. They will cook you american breakfast if you request.
