How would you like to stay 830m above sea level and catch a gorgeous view of Penang every morning? Well, if you don't mind staying off the beaten path, book a room at the highest hostel in town which is situated at the top of Penang Hill . Like the E&O, Bellevue Hotel was once by the eccentric millionaires, the Sarkies Brothers so you're ensured of a place where the view is gorgeous. I talked to the caretaker at Bellevue and found out that a twin ensuite goes for something like RM90 or so. And for RM100+ or so, the hotel will send a 4WD to pick you from the airport! You can book the hotel online and thereafter call the hotel to arrange the transport.
Here's what I like about this place
2.Lots of hiking opportunities over here, it's within walking distance to the Jungle Treks. The hotel also organise walks.
3.Lots of Character circa 1940s
4.Astounding Hill View from the Garden
5.The 4wd drive from the airport via the steep trek ( from botanical gardens) sounds fun.
6.Great place to get away from it all. The air here is crisp, clean and cool and you're constantly surrounded by greenery.
But here's the caveat, this place is quite old and run down so don't expect it to be like the E&O. Stay here only if you're prepared to be away from civilisation.
If you don't want to spend your days at the beach, then Georgetown is a great option. Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the hotel, but it was next to the Malaysia Hotel.
It was only a simple hotel with basic facilities, but it was inexpensive and centrally located.
There is not much to say about this place, the breakfast was not too good, but the rooms were clean and the staff friendly.
Georgetown offers many opportunities, from budget hotels to luxury accomodations and the city itself is worth staying there for a few days.
gee... you may wondering what is the "no chicken in the hotel". it means no bringing in prostitute and no prostitution in the hotel. this place is very save for the single women and family backpackers.
walking distance to lotz of historical places...like Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, God of Mercy Temple, Little India, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Carpenter Temple, Komtar..... etc
Have attended events organized in this hotel. Facilities and rates are reasonable.
Location is convenient in Bayan Baru township, Bayan Lepas.
Walking distance to Bayan Baru Sunshine Shopping Mall, Giant Hypermarket and Hospital Pantai. Also close to PISA (Penang International Sports Arena) and 15 minutes drive from airport.
This is a chain budget hotel in Malaysia. Usually for budget or family vacation. Stayed in one in Ipoh. Room is safisfactory.
great food , good location and affordable price
there was a promotion of RM 69 nett per night with buffet breakfast
Hotel is located back to back with Cheong Fatt Tze mansion and is just walking distance to
1) Fort Cornwallis and Esplanade

Along Chulia Street, Love Lane, Leith Street and adjoining Streets in this part of George Town, there are several old mansions with courtyards that converted into budget and backpackers accommodation.

Well, the beds, the view, the everything about this place.
It's better to spend a little more money and stay in Beach not in the town , i stayed with my sister in Holliday Inn and it was real fun
The pool is great ! Specially because of the Jellyfish you can not go in to the sea . The breakfast and bar was really okay , also you can enjoy a music band twice a week there , they are really cool!

They are basic accommodations for the budget travellers. Great place to meet other fellow budget travellers and backpackers. Manywill help arrange for transportation to your next destination or visa extension or renewal with Thai Consulate.
Again, do shop around for the available rooms that meet your expectations and budget.
Very friendly services from all the staff - the front desk, housekeeping and bell boys (men, especially Tommy). For only RM$98 nett with breakfast, this hotel is value for money!
It is close to all historical tourist attractions, food and if you are in a party mood, the night life is just across the street.
Since my first stay at the hotel in 2001, I have always had a great room with a wonderful view of E & O HOTEL and the sea, which some other more expensive hotel don't even have. I didn't even have to ask or pay extra for my "seaview"!
On many occasions when I arrived Penang early in the morning (7:30am), I am glad the staff allow me to check in early. Some other hotels are a stickler to the "Check in/ Check out" time. But at Continental Hotel, you can request for an early check in and late check out without much of a problem.
What not to like about this hotel? Nothing! When you are paying only RM$98, I am getting more than I have bargained for!
Small tip: Call the hotel for your room reservations, they don't have a website.
1. Great and Convenient Location
2. Great room view
3. Small nice pool and deck
4. Great Friendly Service from staff - feels like you have a lot of good friends when you stay at the hotel. Everyone is so helpful!
This is a cheap and friendly guesthouse located 38 steps from Batu Feringgi Beach! The prices are US$7.00 for a double fan room and a bit more for aircon. This is a friendly guesthouse located in the best location, on the best beach!
Cheap and on the Batu Feringgi Beach! Very helpful too, with bus and ferries. Also there is no curfew nor lock-outs.
