Best Hotel Ever
Location: Batu Ferringhi is not a great beach, or indeed a great place full stop - its a bit of an Aussie 'Benidorm'. But the Rasa Sayang and its grounds are an oasis of calm.
Accommodation: Biggest room I ever stayed in, with great fittings, balcony with soaking tub, huge bathroom.
Gardens: Very lush gardens almost like a tropical park, many people looking after it.
Service: The best ever - people are very polite and efficient, nothing is a problem.
Food: Only tried breakfast and canapes from the lounge - all were excellent.
Value: If you buy drinks they are too expensive. If you get a Rasa Wing room then drinks and nibbles are free all day and can work out quite economical as you dont need to buy anything other than a late snack in the evening. Room rate was OK if you are used to European prices, but are shockingly expensive compared to other local options.
Unique Quality: Huge spa with great treatments (so my wife tells me).
Best hotel grounds and pools I ever saw.
Biggest room with tub on the balcony (with electric curtains !).
Best service ever - even better than Shangri-La Singapore !
Free transfer bus to Georgetown several times a day.

Service Apartment in Batu Ferringhi
Stayed here for a week for a corporate training program.
The rooms are furnished with living room and bedrooms. So ideal for family vacation and stay if you prefer lower budget than staying in an international hotel.
There is a pool and free parking.
Location is opposite Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Hotel across the road. So you have to cross the road to get to the beach.

Luxury Resort with lots of pools
I remember staying at this hotel as a child for a week. We were touring Malaysia and my father got called away to Hawaii for a business emergency leaving my mother, me and my two sisters at this resort for the week. I think we spent most of the time in the pool. I remember them having lots of tropical trees around the pool. Looking back at the little rating book I kept as a child- I gave the hotel 4 out of 5 stars.
Unique Quality: The hotel was recently renovated (2006 I believe) and there are now 3 swimming pools. There is a new garden wing where the rooms are supposedly larger.

Good 5 Star Hotel
An excellent 5 star hotel.
The staff were attentive and there when we needed them without being intrusive.
Whikst not being an opulent 5 star hotel, it is still 5 star and we had no complaints.
There are two wings to the hotel - the Garden Wing and a new wing (not sure what it is called).
The new wing is more expensive to stay at and we were quietly advised that if we were not staying in a suite (lucky us) in the Garden Wing, it really was worth paying the extra for the new wing.
The hotel restaurants does a fantastic buffet dinner in the evenings with a huge selection of food from all over the world.
This hotel was more expensive than the others in the neighbourhood but it is of far superior quality.
Unique Quality: The hotel is right on the beach. Our room had fllor to ceiling windows overlooking the beach and the waves coming in. If we were on our balcony during the day, we could watch the full range of water sports right there in front of us on the beach.

5 Star Hotel Turned Resort
Went to the "new" Rasa Sayang Hotel since the renovation was completed recently.
It has changed into a more selective and quieter spa and "do little" resort. The front entrance has moved. The number of swimming pools decreased. Oh well, change is inevitable.
The room rates are astrononical now starting with promotion rate of RM800 and above. But if you can afford, it is still a choice place to stay at Batu Ferringhi. But I would opt for the Golden Sands.

A Warm Welcome awaits you at the Shangri-La
Located on Batu Ferringhi, the Shangri-la Resort is a luxurious resort that exudes warmth, style and class in a relaxed and casual manner. It has extensively lush gardens and three swimming pools, and fun activities for the kids. It is also popular with honeymooners.
During our last stay, we were given a room on the ground floor (36 sq meters?) with added space for the kids and all their stuff. Instead of a balcony, the sliding doors opened out directly into the garden and easy access to the pool nearby. When we checked in, we felt a bit embarrased as we had brought along the children's stuffed toys, their pillows and bolsters, towels, 10 pairs of sandals and shoes, and their swimming gear, but the staff didn't bat an eye-lid and greeted us warmly.
Unique Quality: There are three pools here - one that is long and straight for serious lap swimmers, one free form pool, and one more for the kids, with its own tree house! My kids really enjoyed spending time here and made a lot of new friends.
The buffet breakfast tends to get crowded, but the service is good, and the staff remain patient and friendly. Most of the staff have worked there for a long time and know how to pamper their guests very well.
The resort has been closed from November 2004 for 18-24 months, for extensive renovations but while waiting for the reopening, you may wish to try their sister resort next door, Shangri-la Golden Sands, or the Shangri-La Hotel located right in Penang town.

Beaches galore!
This place was amazing! ABSOLUTELY loved it. We arrived at night, so I couldn't see anything from my 3rd floor balcony, but in the morning, I was greeted by the pool and the ocean! The entire place, including the lobby and the restaurant, are all outside...no walls to surround you. It was a tropical paradise! The Shangri La Golden Sands resort is next door, and you can walk on the beach over to it and have lunch there and use all thier services. The Golden Sands is more of a family oriented hotel, so couples, stay away....FAR away! Besides..the Rasa Sayangs' pool is better. It even has a slide.

The pool was great, and the bar right on the beach is always great!
