in the pool
by Wild_OrchidDuring our last stay, we were given a room on the ground floor (36 sq meters?) with added space for the kids and all their stuff. Instead of a balcony, the sliding doors opened out directly into the garden and easy access to the pool nearby. When we checked in, we felt a bit embarrased as we had brought along the children's stuffed toys, their pillows and bolsters, towels, 10 pairs of sandals and shoes, and their swimming gear, but the staff didn't bat an eye-lid and greeted us warmly.
There are three pools here - one that is long and straight for serious lap swimmers, one free form pool, and one more for the kids, with its own tree house! My kids really enjoyed spending time here and made a lot of new friends.
The buffet breakfast tends to get crowded, but the service is good, and the staff remain patient and friendly. Most of the staff have worked there for a long time and know how to pamper their guests very well.
The resort has been closed from November 2004 for 18-24 months, for extensive renovations but while waiting for the reopening, you may wish to try their sister resort next door, Shangri-la Golden Sands, or the Shangri-La Hotel located right in Penang town.
