Needs major work..
Desk staff quite unreasonable in terms of requiring passport details even though credit card details were all given. The excuse of security was given.. but in the end name was still spelt wrongly and address incorrect. Didn't end up with the passport number anyway. Room size was ok, but the bathroom had mould all over it and very unsightly (fortunately the smell seemed to be ok). Carpet was very stained Gymnasium seemed to be substandard (although it does have a selection of light free weights) Pool seemed to be the best facility in the place.
The only good thing to recommend about this hotel was the friendly and helpful concierge who seemed to know about the various tourist attractions.
Best suggestion would be to stay somewhere else.. definitely not a 4-star and a blight on the Sunway name.

Lousy Hotel, Dirty, Smelly
The room smelt of body odour, they fumigated the room next door and the entire corridor and room stank of pesticide, housekeeping was very slow, the room was very dirty, please do not stay at this hotel. Terrible.

Where the food is
Room smelt musty and in need of proper maintenance especially the bathroom. (Sept 2005). On my recent visit, I noticed the facade had a new coat of paint. I wonder if they did up the interiors too. Swimming pool was small. Best not to have breakfast there because it is so much cheaper to eat out and there is more variety on the streets.
Unique Quality: Cheap and reasonable. Central location. Step out of the hotel and you are spoilt for choice for dinner in the evenings. Still hungry at 11pm? You can still have supper because the hawkers are still there.

Room with a view
Checking in was done effortlessly. Tasty food serves at breakfast. Services superb. Got a room with the view of sun rise. Doesnt expect it but religiously waited by the window prove to be worthwhile!
If you are not sure how to go about the island, the concierge will provide you a map with simple guide on which road should u take to certain destination.
Closeby to KOMTAR means u are right in the town. Walking distance to shopping complex and right in the middle of hawker street.
Parking is complimentray for in house guests. Dont forget to use your welcome drinks upon your check-in!

In the heart of Georgetown
Sunway Hotel, Georgetown, is a modest place to stay. It is located within walking distance to the Komtar, Jalan Penang and many other shops. It is just next to a stretch of road (Lorong Baru), bustling with hawkers who operate late into the night. Hence, a food paradise awaits not far away.
The room are very clean and comfortable. However, note that a RM100 deposit is required for the dweller. It would be returned to him upon his check-out. Phone charges and the use of other services from the hotel would be deduced from this deposit.
Unique Quality: We stayed at the upper floor (7th) and we were able to have a good view of the town from our room. The neighbouring buildings comprise shophouses and places of worship, which are low-rised. I was able to see the coastline and Penang Bridge at the far end. As we were there during the festive periods of Hari Raya and Deepavali, we even caught sight of celebrative fireworks at night.

Great Location! Near Food & Shopping
Sunway Hotel is ideally located in the city of George Town.
Just below the hotel is New Lane where about more than 40 stalls of hawker food are availabe till late at night.
Oriental Seafood is just a 3 mins walk.
It is about a 5 mins walk to Komtar and Pragin Mall.

Well if you want to walk to a place where you can sample most of Penang's yummiest hawkers food and near to shopping centre and 10 minutes drive to Penang's heritage and historical areas this hotel is the best in terms of comfortability , location and price.
