by Wild_Orchid This hotel is pretty large by Petaling Jaya standards and has a great resort-like feel. Boasting 1,234 rooms and numerous function rooms, it is easy to get lost here. The carved elephants and tigers at the entrance are a bit glitzy, a la Las Vegas style, but that's part of the fun and escapism concept that the developers of the hotel have tried to create. While I have not stayed at the rooms here, I have attended a number of seminars and grand dinners at the various function and ballrooms. The ballroom is one of the biggest in Petaling Jaya (can accommodate 1,000 people) and if that is no sufficient, then there is another ballroom at the Sunway Convention Centre. The food at Avanti Coffee House is well-known, and its weekend brunches at RM62++ are a hit with many locals. (comes with Italian fare, local delights and oysters...) Fast Fact: This hotel was developed on the site of what was once an old disused tine mine (i.e. a huge hole in the ground). This is why much of the hotel is located below ground.
Themed rooms - eg Arabian nights, Jungle, etc. Resort style pool with some greenery. Apart from hotel accomodation, apartments are also available for long-term stays. Good views and easy access to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park (see my Things to Do list) and Sunway Pyramid (shopping mall complete with restaurants, large cinemas and an ice skating rink)

My wife and myself stayed a week at the hotel in Feb. 2007. The staff was great and took great care of us. The room was clean, cozy, and was a little worn. The lobby is nice with a sit and chat area or a place to wait on your party. The breakfast was good with both western and local items. For the cost and location it is a great deal for anyone. Don't forget to call early and make a reservation (they use a old school reservation book, it is quite neat), request a room with a pool or courtyard view.
Great location, super easy to get a cab, on a one-way street, close to a mall, close food stalls, close to the LRT and great staff. Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 3 - 5 Lorong Sultan, , Petaling Jaya, Selangor

The car park is not sheltered - i.e. its get too hot in the day and you need an umbrella when it rain. The reception, payment, enquiry were mend by just one lady - i.e. be prepared to wait in line for half an hour. I made my booking of room via their website, but when I turned up at the reception, my booking was not made. Apparently, the web admin did not handed over my booking to the Reception, or so they claimed. I stayed in a Deluxe room - but there was no room plan or concierge available, so we ended up walking in circles with our luggage looking for our room on the 3rd storey. There was no lift, one has to carry the luggages up 3 levels. The Deluxe room appeared worn down, and the bed and beddings smell – bought a can of Dextol spray to sterile the bed and room. Mineral water cost RM5 instead of free. The TV was small, and placed on the side of the bed instead of the front. Reception was poor, only 3 channels were reasonably clear. The bathroom was spartan. Water pressure was low, and hot water was warm at best. Only 2 bath towels were provided – no hand or face towels, and the towels were yellowish brown. Only one toilet roll was provided. No comb, shaver, or toothbrush was included in what are considered standard toiletry pack in most hotels. Breakfast was basic – nasi lemak and fried noodle.
Staff were helpful and nice. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 3 - 5 Lorong Sultan, , Petaling Jaya, Selangor

My friends and I stayed in the Shah Village Hotel in Jun 08 and was doubled charged via credit card payment by the receptionist upon checking in and on the upon checking out. When challenged, the staff claimed that the charge during checking in serves as a deposit and they would cancel the claim. However when I received my credit card bills later, they never reimbursed this deposit. I have called the hotel and brought up this matter to their staff. Till date, I have yet to receive the deposit. The staff are not helpful in helping to resolve the matter at all. It's a place to cheat tourists from other countries of their money. Do not go!!!!!
Except for the nice looking pool and the surrounding around it, the room, and staff service sucks!!! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 3 - 5 Lorong Sultan, , Petaling Jaya, Selangor
